Apparatus for reducing sensitivity of an article to mechanical shock comprises a frame; first and second planar masses mounted in the frame for bi-directional movement relative to the frame along a first axis of displacement; a first lever pivotable about a first fulcrum secured to the frame; the lever having one end connected to the first mass and the other end connected to the second mass, and the fulcrum being disposed between the ends of the lever; whereby the torque exerted about the fulcrum by the first mass is countered by the torque exerted about the fulcrum by the second mass in response to a mechanical shock applied to the frame along the axis of displacement such that an article carried by the first mass in use has reduced sensitivity to the shock.

A storage device including a storage medium for storing data in the form of topographic or magnetic marks. At least one probe is mounted on a common frame, the common frame and the storage medium designed for moving relative to each other for creating or detecting said marks. A method is disclosed for generating an application that analyzes image data, such as from satellite and microscope pictures. The method uses a graphical user interface to add a new processing object to a processing object network. The processing object network includes a parent processing object and a child processing object. A user can append a new processing object to the child processing object or can add the new processing object as a subprocess to the parent processing object. The user selects a data domain and an algorithm from selection lists on the graphical user interface and adds them to the new processing object. The application uses a semantic cognition network to process data objects that are generated by segmenting the image data. The application then uses the new processing object to identify portions of the image that are to be highlighted on the graphical user interface.

A data processing system comprises a local probe storage array having a plurality of sensors for reading data from a storage surface. A plurality of data processing elements are mounted on the storage array. Each data processing element is connected to different sensor of the array for processing data read by the connected sensor. The data processing elements may be logic gates for performing simple comparisons with input data. Alternatively, each data processing element may comprise more complex logic circuitry for performing more complex functions based on data read by the storage array. Such function may involve a combination of data read by the storage array and data input to the data processing system from an another source. Each data processing element may comprise a complete microprocessor system responsive to data read from the storage array. It will be appreciated that data processing elements may thought of as collectively constituting a form of CPU capable of acting upon data read from the storage array in a parallel and therefor high speed fashion.
