Method of connecting two components by deforming material of one component into a widening hole of the other component and squeezing the pressed-in material outward until the hole is at most filled The connection is effected by a single press stroke.

Method of connecting two components

A tool set including a punch and a die adapted to be mounted respectively on reciprocating press elements. The die includes an anvil and elastically deflectable blades defining, with the anvil, a die cavity of closed contour. The punch contour is smaller than the die contour so that sheet metal pieces to be joined by the tool set are not cut assume a cup-like configuration at the connecting point. The connecting point has an attractive form at both free sides of the sheet metal pieces.

A power driven tool holder for handling apparatus comprises a socket to which a plurality of pincer members are pivotally connected. Each pincer member includes a two-armed lever having a first end where a tool member may be mounted and a second end carrying a cam follower. A cam head common to all pincer members is hydraulically displaceable and is provided with cam tracks individually adapted to the desired displacement of the allocated lever whose cam follower engages the respective cam tracks.

The tool set comprises a male die and a female die cooperating to connect metal sheet workpieces when driven by a press. The male die is trunconical. The female die includes an anvil and forming members which, in a first operation phase, are stationarily supported and, in a second phase, are subjected to a movement in the same direction as the male die, thereby simulating the effect of a double stroke press.

A press-driven tool set for joining sheet metal work pieces comprises a die member and a punch member. The die member includes an anvil spaced by a deep gap from a forming member. Deformed material may flow into the gap without filling it so as to cope with thickness tolerances. Debris, such as oil and chips, may collect in the gap. The forming member may be comprised of segments which can be spread apart, facilitating removal of connected work pieces.

A method and apparatus for joining two adjacent sheets of metal the complementary engaging of a male die and a female die, during one stroke, only one of the two sheets is provided with incisions and the material of the other sheet is pressed through the area defined along the incisions and is extruded laterally beyond the edges thereof to form a rivet-type connection.

A device is described for joining metal sheets with a male and female die, of the type in which the dies interact to cut or slice through the sheets to form portions of material which are spread via material flow by the die interaction to prevent separation of the sheets. The female die has plates which provide counter-edges which interact with the male punch to provide the desired cutting. The metal plates are leaf springs which yield after the cutting to permit spreading of the material.

Device for joining metal sheets by a rivetting-type method

Apparatus for joining a first, non-perforated sheet metal piece to a second, perforated one comprising a male die and a female die, the latter having an anvil which prior to actual joining locates the perforation beneath the male die and is, upon actuation of the apparatus, displaced into a lowered position in which material of the first sheet forced through the perforation by the male die is laterally swaged but is not cut.

Apparatus for connecting sheet metal pieces

Tubular members which are to be joined by establishing a circumferential weld bead at abutting ends thereof are engaged by an internal clamp which defines a circumferential groove aligned with the weld zone. This circumferential groove, which is formed by cooperating surface grooves in a plurality of radially movable jaws, is filled with an inert gas during welding. The action of the jaws insures centering of the tubular members and prevents shrinkage and other misalignment during welding.

A tool for forming a lateral opening in a tube comprises an assembly which can be inserted longitudinally into a tube until it lies opposite to an opening (12) through which an operating member (44) can be passed for operative engagement with the assembly at 46. The assembly includes a wedge member (16) with wedge surfaces (22) extending symmetrically in relation to the direction of motion of the operating member (44). Two spreader bodies (28,30) are mounted on the wedge member (16) and after initial insertion of the tool the operating member acts to displace the wedge member and hence the spreader body so that it contacts and deforms the interior of the pipe. Complete withdrawal of the tool through the opening (12) deforms the metal surrounding the opening and after a suitable finishing process another tube can be welded at right angles to the first mentioned tube to form a T-piece.

Tool for forming a lateral opening in a tube

A sheet metal bending tool with first and second former members, one rotatable on a first axis, the former members being movable toward and away from each other on another axis normal to the first axis, the formers having opposed clamping faces, the rotatable former member having two clamping faces angularly related to each other by an angle equal to the angle of rotation during bending, the clamping face of the second former being toothed.
