An electrochemical voltage source has an anode containing lithium, a cathode containing manganese oxide, and a housing. The cathode and the anode are arranged in an interior of the housing and are arranged opposite one another. An electrolyte reservoir in the form of a compressible storage body, which receives an electrolyte, is arranged between the anode and the cathode. The storage body has a first side resting against an end face of the cathode and a second side, which faces away from the first side, and rests against an end face of the anode. The cathode experiences an increase in volume when the voltage source is discharged. The anode experiences a decrease in volume during the discharge. During the discharge, the absolute value of the volume increase of the cathode is at least as great as the absolute value of the volume decrease of the anode.

The present invention relates to an active element for a battery whose material contains copper oxyphosphate and an additive improving the conductivity. The proportion of the additive improving the conductivity in the material is between 3 and 7 wt. %, preferably between approximately 3 wt. % and approximately 5 wt. %, and the proportion of the copper oxyphosphate in the material adds up to 100 wt. %. The invention additionally relates to a battery having an active element of this type as well as a method for producing an active element of this type and a battery of this type. The battery according to the invention is suitable in particular for use in medical implants.

An implantable multi-function medical device, having a first therapy assembly that has a small current requirement and a second therapy assembly that has a large current requirement. A sealed galvanic cell which has high power and energy densities, a low self discharge, and an open circuit voltage which is related to state of discharge, and which is useful for supplying electrical power to an implantable device, such as a defibrillator and a nerve stimulator, with a large current consumption, and method of making same. The galvanic cell includes a casing; a cathode unit having at least one electrode composed of a mixture of at least one metal oxide and at least one lead compound; an anode unit having at least one electrode comprised of an alkali metal; and an organic electrolyte comprised of a mixture of (a) ethylene- and/or propylene carbonate, (b), 2-dimethoxyethane, and (c) a conducting salt. The at least one lead compound is present in an amount of, for example, 3 to 15 mol %, so that the mean slope of the open circuit voltage after the time just before reaching the end of discharge at which at least 10 % of capacity remains is greater than the mean slope prior thereto.
