A method converts an input image signal (IS) into a drive signal (DS) for driving sub-pixels (SP) of a display device (DD) comprising display pixels (DPI) having at least two sub-pixel groups (SG, SG) being able to contribute to luminance information displayed. Multi-primary conversion

A color display device, a drive circuit for a color display device, a method, a signal and a computer-readable medium for reducing electro-optical cross talk that occurs in a display that is operated in Spectrum Sequential mode is disclosed. The invention eliminates annoying visible artifacts, such as contouring, noise, or color deviation, which normally are introduced by this cross talk by compensating for the cross talk. According to embodiments of the invention, a drive signal (R',G&#x2032;,B&#x2032;) to drive picture elements of the display is altered in video processing circuitry (MPC, XTC, SC) and/or software, in dependence on one or more properties of different spectra from a light source () in the display. The invention is implemented with little extra effort and cost in known LCD displays.

Spectrum sequential display having reduced cross talk

A method is described which converts a three primary color input signal (Cx, Cy, Cz) into N drive signals (P, . . . , PN) to drive N&#x3e;3 primary colors of a multi-primary color display (). The method determines () a valid range (VS) wherein the N drive signals (P, . . . , PN) have valid values by performing the steps of (i) defining 3 functions representing 3 of the drive signals (P, P, P) as a function of the remaining N&#x2212;3 drive signal(s) (P, . . . , PN), and (ii) calculating () a common range in a space formed by the N&#x2212;3 drive signal(s) (P, . . . , PN) wherein each one of the 3 functions has valid values. Method of converting signals for multi-primary color display

A dual display device for displaying an input image includes first and second displays. The first display is arranged for modulating an image from the second display. The dual display device further includes a processor having an image splitter which splits the input image into illumination and reflection images according to a retinex algorithm. The reflection image is displayed on the first display and the illumination image is displayed on the second display. Due to the series arrangement of the two displays, the input image is substantially recreated. The illumination image typically is a spatially low-resolution image derived from the input image.

Converting a three primary color input signal into four signals

A method of mapping a four primary input signal to sets of four sub-pixels of a display device, the method including sub-sampling the input samples of the four primary input signal by assigning the first, second and third input signals of a particular input sample to the first, second and third sub-pixels, producing first, second and third primary colors of a particular set of four adjacent sub-pixels, respectively, and the fourth input signal of a further input sample to the fourth sub-pixel, producing a fourth color of said particular set of the four adjacent sub-pixels, wherein the particular input sample and the further input sample are associated with adjacent positions on the display device.
