A light output device comprises a substrate arrangement with a plurality of light source device arrangements integrated into the structure of the substrate arrangement. The plurality of light source device arrangements comprise at least first and second light source devices () which are arranged in anti-parallel. This arrangement mounts at least two light source devices in anti-parallel within an integrated light source structure, so that they can be controlled independently from shared control lines.

A scrolling color projection system, comprising a pulsed lamp () and a color scanner () for generating a light beam () with a plurality of scrolling color fields, arranged to illuminate a display device () to produce a projection of an image generated by the display device, wherein the frequency of the lamp is controlled so as to be related to the frame rate of the display device. By controlling the lamp frequency in relation to the frame rate, a generated interference pattern can be controlled to be distributed over several frame periods and over the entire height of the display. In particular, the pattern can be controlled in such a way that it is not perceptible to the human eye.

In an image projection device, interferences between the light source and the light modulator leading to visible interferences in the projected image are suppressed by an interference cancellation circuit that pre-corrects the control signal that includes the image data that is to be projected.

The invention relates to a projection display device comprising a illumination system having a light source and an optical bar for providing an illumination beam, an image display system comprising a display panel for modulating the illumination beam with image information and projecting the image on a screen, and a color filter provided on a wheel, rotatably mounted at its hub, for transmitting colored portions of the illumination beam for illuminating the display panel. In order to improve the efficiency of the projection display device, the color filter comprises adjacent spiral-shaped filter portions for simultaneously illuminating portions of the display panel by the colored portions of the illumination beam so that the portions of the display panel are consecutively illuminated by the colored portions of the illumination beam.

Projection display device

A projection system is provided with a square-wave current light source and a color wheel with differently colored segments. The lifetime of the light source is long since the square-wave current constantly changes polarity a constant power is supplied to the light source and, before changing polarity, a current pulse is each time provided, driving the square-wave current to a predetermined strength which is larger than the current strength in between the current pulses. In the course of time, the amount of power in the current pulses increases relative to the amount of power in the current in between the current pulses. By controlling the timing of occurrence of the current pulses to constantly coincide in time and, on average, an equal number of times with all colors of the color wheel, the position of the white color point is independent of the period of time of use of the light source.
