An apparatus for coating a substrate using physical vapor deposition, including a vacuum chamber wherein a coil is placed for keeping an amount of conductive material in levitation and for heating and evaporating that material, using a varying electric current in the coil. Isolating member are placed in the coil to isolate the coil from the levitated material. The isolating member is part of a container made of non-conductive material. The container has one or more openings for guiding evaporated conductive material to the substrate to be coated. A method for coating a substrate using physical vapor deposition is also presented.

Apparatus and method for coating a substrate

An apparatus for levitation of an amount of conductive material including a coil for keeping the material in levitation using a varying electric current in the coil. The apparatus has two coils, a first coil and a second coil, both coils generating an alternating electromagnetic field during use, the alternating electric field of the first and the second coil counteracting each other. The first and second coils are positioned such that the conductive material kept in levitation between the first coil and the second coil is evaporated. A method for generating an amount of levitated conductive material is also disclosed.

Apparatus and method for levitation of an amount of conductive material

The invention relates to a method for coating a substrate with a layer of a material, such as a metal, in which a quantity of electrically conductive material is vaporized in a space with a low background pressure and energy is supplied to the material which is to be vaporized in order to vaporize this material. According to the invention, the material which is to be vaporized, while it is being vaporized, is kept floating, without support, in the space and is enclosed in an alternating electromagnetic field, the alternating electromagnetic field being generated with the aid of a high-frequency alternating current. The invention also relates to a device for coating a substrate and to a substrate.

Method and device for coating a substrate

Refractory wall structure for a blast furnace, in particular for a metallurgical furnace, such as for example a blast furnace with a high process temperature during operation, which wall structure is subjected to a high thermal loading. The wall structure comprises a steel outer wall, a refractory lining consisting of one or more layers of a well heat-conducting material on the inside of the outer wall, and a cooler for cooling the refractory wall structure, whereby the wall structure also comprises a permanent, well heat-conducting metallic filling in a gap in the refractory wall structure, which filling has been molten inside the gap and then after solidifying forms a low heat resistance across the gap.
