Azo-azomethine dyes, a dichroic dye mixture including azo-azomethine dyes, a liquid crystal composition with the azo-azomethine dyes, and methods for producing the dyes and dye compositions. The dyes can be used in liquid crystal systems, transmissive displays, and smart windows.

Dichroic azo-azomethine dyes for liquid crystal compositions

A color filter comprising a cured layer of a photosensitive resist composition comprising a highly reactive polyacrylate monomer and a process for the preparation thereof are provided. The color filter is especially useful for low temperature applications such as electrophoretic displays, polymer dispersed liquid crystal displays, OLED devices and the like.

Described is a black dichroic dye composition comprising 2 or more dyes, wherein at least one dye, generally a red dye and optionally a yellow dye, conforms to the formula A and at least one dye, usually a blue dye, conforms to the formula B Ar&#x2014;N&#x2550;N&#x2014;[Ar&#x2014;N&#x2550;N&#x2014;]Ar&#x2014;N&#x2550;N&#x2014;Ar(B) with symbols as defined in present claims. The dye composition is well suited for combination with liquid crystal material for use, inter alia, as polarizing film and/or in liquid crystal displays, showing, inter alia, high dichroic ratio and excellent compatibility with the LC material. 

Black dichroic dye

A color filter comprising a cured layer of a photosensitive resist composition comprising a highly reactive polyacrylate monomer and an alkali soluble binder having a side chain containing an ethylenically unsaturated bond in the side chain and a process for the preparation thereof are provided. The color filter is especially useful for low temperature applications such as electrophoretic displays, polymer dispersed liquid crystal displays, OLED devices and the like.

The present invention relates to a photosensitive resist composition comprising a colorant. More specifically, it relates to a photosensitive resist composition which is advantageously used for the production of a color filter for use in electronic paper displays devices, color image pick-up elements and the like.

Photosensitive resist composition for color filters for use in electronic paper display devices

Actinically modifiable composition for producing a black matrix comprising, all based on the entire composition, 10-70% by weight of a colorant or a mixture of colorants; 90-30% by weight of actinically reactive binder material, although optionally from 0% to 30% by weight of the actinically reactive binder material can be non-reactive components; and 0-10% by weight of further, non-reactive constituents; characterized in that the colorant or 50-100% by weight, the colorant mixture comprises a colorant obtainable by reaction of a compound of formula (i) with a compound of formula (ii), in the presence of a catalyst, or a mixture of such colorants, wherein the black colorant is likely a product of formula (iii) or a tautomer or isomer thereof. 

Black matrix for colour filters

The present invention relates to the preparation and use of (colored) organic particles carrying electric charge as electrophoretic (image) displaying particles, to electrophoretic dispersions comprising the organic particles carrying electric charge, electrophoretic (image) devices (especially displays) comprising the colored organic particles carrying electric charge, to the novel functionalized particles, and to their use. A composition, for producing dispersions, thermoplastic masses and/or color filters, comprising (a) a colorant of formula (1) wherein 20-100 mol % Rare Br and 80-100 mol % Rare H, especially of formula (Ib) and/or (Ic); (b) from 0 to 150% by weight, based on (a), of C. I. Pigment Red 144, 188, 190, 224, 242 or 2,4,6-trimethylphenylperylene diimide; (c) from 3 to 25% by weight, based on (a), of a di- or tri-azacyclopentylmethyl-substituted colorant (formulae given); (d) from 0 to 10% by weight, preferably from 0.01 to 8% by weight, based on the sum of (a) and (b), of an additionally sulfonated colorant of the same kernels as in (c); and (e) from 0 to 30% by weight, preferably from 3 to 25% by weight, especially from 5 to 20% by weight, based on (a), of a diketopyrrolopyrrole colorant substituted by at least one chain containing a plurality of nitrogen atoms (cf. formula (V)). 

Red colour filter composition

The invention relates to an electrophoretic display, comprising electrodes and cells containing at least one kind of ionic, monochrome particles, a non-polar liquid and a dispersant, wherein the ionic, monochrome particles of at least one kind are essentially aggregates consisting of a carbon containing pigment and a cationic pigment orcationic pigment derivative, and the dispersantis selected from the group consisting of polyacrylates, polyesters, polyurethanes and copolymers, with the proviso that the cationic pigment or cationic pigment derivative is not a reaction product of carbonblack with diazotated procaine hydrochloride. In general, the whole quantity of the pigment and the main part, preferably at least 80%, most preferred from 95% to 100%, of the whole cationic pigment or cationic pigment derivative present within the cells is comprised in the aggregates, with essentially no pigment and only a minor part of the cationic pigment or cationic pigment derivative physically distinct from the aggregates.

Encapsulated dispersions comprising electrophoretically mobile organic colorants
