An outdoor lighting network (OLN) is disclosed as a supplementary or contingency communications infrastructure for smart city systems. The OLN may integrate light points within the network as receivers which are switched from a standard OLN communication protocol to a D2D based protocol upon disruption of a primary smart city systems communications network, wherein each communication protocol includes a respective message prioritization method. Aspects of the disclosure additionally includes methods and apparatus for implementing an outdoor lighting network which can act, in cases of primary communication failure, as a D2D network in order to pass messages from smart city system field devices, through the converted D2D OLN network and to a smart city system central manager for proper handling and distribution of the smart city system field device communications.

Outdoor lighting network as a contingency connectivity infrastructure

Multiple luminaires are mounted contiguously in a plane, along a straight line or following a one or two dimensional contour, but with a visible periphery between each adjacent pair. A different signal is embedded into the visible illumination emitted by each luminaire, which an image processing module can detect from one or more images captured by a camera. An angle-dependent mask is arranged to cover at least the periphery between adjacent luminaires, such that an appearance of the periphery when viewed from the environment through the mask varies as a function of viewing angle, becoming less visible at greater values of viewing angle (being the angle between a corresponding viewing direction and a normal to the plane, line or contour). The image processing module distinguishes between the different signals based on the periphery being visible when captured from less than a predetermined value of the viewing angle.

Detecting signals embedded in visible light

The present invention relates to a method and a system for performing digital rights management. The idea of the invention is that a master right associated with a content is stored at a first authorized device (). An authorized device is a device which can be considered trusted and performs actions with contents according to the associated rights. These devices enforce rights that are bound to contents, and perform the security tasks of the DRM system employed. A subright is derived from the master right, which subright controls what type of access a second authorized device () is given to the associated content. Finally, the subright is distributed to the second authorized device, given that the second device complies with predetermined distribution criteria associated with the master right. The device distributing the subright authenticates the device which is to receive the subright, ensuring that the second device can be trusted.

Connection linked rights protection

Disclosed are a method, a controlling device (), a controllable device () and an arrangement () for communicating a command from the controlling device () to the controllable device (). A watermark is generated comprising the command, and embedded in a signal () representing an audio or video fragment. The controllable device () receives the signal () comprising the command, and decodes and executes the command therefrom. Also disclosed is a method of presenting an advertisement which involves sending a command related to presenting the advertisement using the above-mentioned method.

Method and device communicating a command

A receiving device for securely storing a content item on a storage medium is disclosed. The content item is stored in a secure format, and has an associated license file. The license file is encrypted using public key associated with a group of playback devices, so that each playback device in the group can decrypt the license file and play the content item, but devices outside the group cannot. A playback device can provide a device-specific public key to a Content Distribution Management System (CDMS). The CDMS then returns the secret key for the group encrypted with the public key of the playback device. The playback device then securely obtains the secret key of the group and is subsequently able to decrypt the license file.

An audio signal processing device includes a signal supply for supplying speech and music signals via one or more input channels. The device further includes a signal separator for separating the speech and music signals. A first converter converts the music signals into desired virtual widened signals from one or more input channels. A signal combiner used to combine the speech signals with the widened music signals.
