An apparatus and method for selectively varying the yield of an explosive device is provided. The apparatus generally comprises a main charge that may selectively be consumed and/or detonated to achieve the selected yield ranging from about 0% to about 100%.

Variable yield device and method of use

A method and apparatus for enhancing explosive yield is provided. The apparatus generally includes an energetic charge operatively associated with a guide. The guide is operatively associated with a reactive material. According to an aspect of the method, the energetic charge is activated to produce a shockwave to impact a reactive material. The shockwave is focused by the guide to impact the reactive material. Impacting the reactive material releases energy in the reactive material to enhance the yield of the energetic charge.

Yield enhancing device and method of use

A method for neutralizing explosive ordnance is provided. According to an aspect of the method, an energetic charge is activated to produce a shockwave, which is imparted at an effective velocity and temperature on a gas to ionize the gas for creating plasma and to drive the plasma. The plasma is impacted on a casing of an ordnance containing an explosive to penetrate through the casing and, without or before causing an explosive event of explosive within the casing, substantially consume the explosive.

An apparatus for measuring pressure in a medium comprises a laser for emitting light; a dichroic beam splitter that reflects the light from the laser; a first lens that receives and focuses the light from the beam splitter; a first optical fiber for receiving the light from the first lens; a crystal having fluorescence properties and having a hemispherical shape, the crystal being attached to an end of the first optical fiber; a second lens that receives and focuses fluorescence generated by the crystal and reflected by the dichroic beam splitter; a second optical fiber for receiving the fluorescence from the second lens; a spectrometer that receives the fluorescence from the second optical fiber; a streak camera connected to the spectrometer; a charge-coupled device connected to the spectrometer; and a delay generator connected to the charge-coupled device, the streak camera and the laser.

Optical fiber based apparatus and sensor with enhanced signal for pressure measurements

An apparatus for measuring pressure in a medium includes a laser for emitting linearly polarized light; a polarizing beam splitter that reflects the linearly polarized light from the laser; a first lens that receives and focuses the linearly polarized light from the polarizing beam splitter; an optical fiber having first and second ends, the first end for receiving the linearly polarized light from the first lens, the second end comprising a tip disposed in the medium, the tip receiving reflected light from the medium, the reflected light being transmitted back through the optical fiber and the first lens to the polarizing beam splitter; the polarizing beam splitter transmitting the reflected light that has polarization orthogonal to the linearly polarized light emitted by the laser but not transmitting the reflected light that has polarization substantially parallel to the linearly polarized light emitted by the laser; a second lens for receiving the reflected light that has polarization orthogonal to the linearly polarized light emitted by the laser; a photodiode for receiving the orthogonal reflected light from the second lens; an oscilloscope connected to the photodiode; and a delay generator connected to the photodiode, the oscilloscope and the laser.
