The present document describes a process for production of hydrogen gas (H) from fermentation of crude glycerol with a hydrogen producing microorganism in a bioreactor. The process comprises the step of introducing a volume of crude glycerol in a fermentation mixture which comprises a fermentation medium comprised of crude glycerol and hydrogen producing microorganisms under a fermentative hydrogen production condition, and then removing a volume of the fermentation mixture equal to the second volume of the crude glycerol, to maintain constant the total volume of the fermentation mixture.

Process for hydrogen production from glycerol

The invention relates to a system and a method for treating waste water using a passive phosphorus-capture filter lined with wood activated by the impregnation of a metal in the form of hydroxide, more specifically aluminum hydroxide or iron hydroxide. This system demonstrates phosphorus removal performances which are very closely linked to the release of iron and which support the observation that iron releases follow a cyclical trend. The method according to the invention also clearly demonstrates the cyclical nature of the reduction of phosphorus, directly linked to the same cycle of iron release at the outlet. When the medium is aerobic, it can precipitate the released iron in the form of hydroxide and thereby limit the release of iron into the outflow water and consequently its residual phosphorus. This model thus allows the service life of the system to be extended, while simultaneously taking advantage of the precipitation/solubilization cycle of the iron observed in the medium under reducing conditions.

System and method for treating waste water by means of passive phosphorus capture

The present document describes a process and a bioreactor for reducing a bisphenol compound content of a wastewater using a membrane bioreactor containing a biomass in a volatile suspended solid (VSS) form where the biomass in the membrane bioreactor is operating continuously to reduce bisphenol compound content when the bisphenol compound volumetric load is below 108 g md.

A method of biofiltration of a liquid effluent by simultaneous nitrification and denitrification uses the adding of an oxygen source at a predetermined rate and optionally the adding of a carbon source (such as whey) thus enabling the complete transformation of the nitrates (NO) present in the effluent at the time of treatment through a biofilter. The specific operating conditions favoring the simultaneous nitrification and denitrification include the controlled injection of a slight quantity of air, adjustment of the level of nitrogen load (TKN+NO) and the level of carbon load thereby making possible elimination for the most part of the release of unwanted nitrogen in the form of NOor NO.

Method of biofiltration of a liquid effluent

The biofilter is used for the purification of a waste liquid using layers of filtering material, wherein the waste liquid moves downwardly by gravity while an O-containing gas moves upwardly therein. The biofilter comprises a gas collector to capture at least a portion of the gas moving upwardly therein to mitigate the problem of biofilter clogging due to a microbial seal at the surface of the uppermost filtering layer.

Biofilter and method for filtering a waste liquid

Apparatus for the purification of waste water and/or waste gas using a biofilter containing a filtering material, wherein the waste water move downwardly thereinto while the waste gas move upwardly or downwardly thereinto, is disclosed. Also disclosed is an apparatus for simultaneous purification of waste water and waste gas, comprising a filtering material comprised of a succession of layers. More conveniently, the apparatus comprises sufficient filtering material between the gas inlet and water outlet to ensure that the water coming out of the apparatus has not been substantially contaminated by the upwardly moving waste gas. In a preferred embodiment, the upper layer of filtering carrier material has a substantially lower filtration capacity than a lower layer of filtering carrier material, to prevent clogging of the filtering material upon downward flow of the waste water. Further disclosed is an apparatus for simultaneous purification of waste water as waste gas moving both downwardly. A filtering composition for purification of waste water and/or waste gas is also disclosed. Finally, the invention relates to an apparatus and a filtering composition for the purification of various types of waste water and waste gas.
