The invention relates to a disc-brake with a caliper (2) slidably mounted on a stationary support (1), comprising two friction pads, (4, 5) anchorably and slidably received in the stationary support (1) and capable of frictionally engaging with the opposite faces of a revolving disc (3) upon application of a brake (8), an axial column (10), integral with the stationary support (1) and slidably received in a corresponding bore (11) formed in the caliper (2), and a mechanism (20) for locking the caliper (2) in rotation about the column (10) on the stationary support (1). The mechanism (20) for locking the caliper (2) on the stationary support (1) is of the ball joint type so as to permit a disalignment of the caliper (2) with respect to the stationary support (1) upon actuation of the brake motor (8).

A brake motor subassembly comprises a control piston (10) having an internal cavity delimited by a base wall (18) and, at the periphery, by a stepped bore (20, 22, 24) and having a mechanical actuating device acting on the control piston via an automatic compensation device formed by a screw-nut device (34) stressed towards the base wall, via a washer (26) and an axial thrust ball bearing (32), by a resilient member (28) supported on a ring (30) fixed at the end of the control piston axially opposite the base wall, and a pilot piston (44) having a first cylindrical peripheral surface of larger diameter (46) sealingly slideably cooperating with an end of reduced diameter (20) of the stepped bore and, in the vicinity of its end (50) axially opposite to the first peripheral surface (46) and cooperating with the washer (26), a second peripheral surface of reduced diameter (54) sealingly slideably cooperating with an annular seal (38) associated with a retaining washer (40) resting axially against a shoulder (42) extending radially towards the interior between the end portion of smaller diameter (20) and the intermediate portion (22) of the stepped bore in which the annular seal (38) is mounted, the pilot piston (44) being stressed towards the base wall (18) by the resilient member (28) via the washer (26). A mechanism is provided for adjusting the stress exerted by the resilient member (28) on the pilot piston (44) to a predetermined value.

Brake motor subassembly and process for adjusting such a subassembly

The present invention relates to a piston cap for a disc brake, comprising a brake motor consisting of a piston (24) sliding in a cylinder (26), this cap being composed of a flexible material ensuring sealing between the piston (24) and the cylinder (26) by way of a bead (32) located on its inner periphery and coming to rest in an annular groove (34) made in the head of the piston (2) and of a retention part on its outer periphery, capable of coming in contact with the inner wall of a receptacle formed at the end of the cylinder, this retention part comprising a metal insert (36) in the form of a cylindrical ring. According to the invention, the cap possesses at least one vent allowing the air contained in the volume which it delimits with the piston (24) and the cylinder (26) to escape and preventing the entry of foreign bodies or corrosive agents into this volume.

In a disc brake having brake pads (22) accommodated inside openings (14) formed in a support member (12), the external edge (34) of the lining carrier plate (24) of each pad has at least one projecting part (54) accommodated inside an aperture (56) formed in a caliper (36) straddling the disc (10). A stud (58) made of a wear-resistant material projects from each part (54) toward the disc. Thus, in the event of the pad (22) slipping between the support member (12) and the disc (10) when the friction lining (26) is totally worn and the disc is worn, the projecting part (54) bears against the edge of the aperture (56), creating a torque which brings a stud (58) into contact with the peripheral edge (10c) of the disc. The pad is thus prevented from escaping, the driver of the vehicle is alerted by the noise resulting from contact between the stud (58) and the disc (10 ), the loss of efficiency of the brake is partially compensated, and the disc (20) is irreversibly damaged so that it is necessary to change it at the same time as the pads (22).

The invention relates to a safety device for disc brakes. The purpose of the device is to prevent the accidental disassembly of a column forming part of a sliding-caliper disc brake. A cap 51 is rotatably coupled with the head of a bolt 48 forming part of the column and screwed onto a stationary support. The cap has a skirt 59 with a cutout 60 in the shape of an arc of a circle, bounded by stops 50, 50'. In the case of accidental unscrewing of the bolt, one of the stops 50, 50' comes to rest against a stationary part 24 of the brake to prevent further unscrewing. Drum brake

The invention concerns the construction of a blank with a view to manufacturing a handbrake control lever (34) for a drum brake. The blank defines two fingers situated essentially at the extension of the body of the blank, one of the fingers is to be folded back to form a trough (62) to accept a cable, the other finger is to be positioned relative to the trough (62) so as to prevent the cable from escaping from the latter.
