A sole for an electric steam iron, which comprises, on its lower surface (9), from the point (3) toward the heel (20), after a first steaming region (14), a first drying region (16), free from steam outlet openings, and extending transversely between the lateral edges (30 and 40) of the sole (1). This first drying region (16) is followed by a second steaming region (17) extending transversely between the lateral edges (30 and 40) of the sole (1) and into which open steam outlet openings (10). The second steaming region (17) is in turn followed by a second drying region (18) free from steam outlet openings, that extends over all the remaining rear surface of the sole.

An electric steam iron comprises a pump (20) adapted to remove a quantity of water from a reservoir (17) and to send this quantity, via a selection device (24), either into a steam chamber (14) so as to obtain abruptly an abundant emission of steam through holes in the sole, or to a cold water spray (25), this pump being of the type having a piston (27) movable in an intake chamber (31). The selection device comprises a deformable membrane (56) with two valves (58, 59) associated respectively with two openings, namely an injection opening (44) connected to the steam chamber (14) and a spray opening (45) connected to the spray chamber (25) and subjected respectively to two manual control buttons, namely, a steam button (62) and a spray button (63). The membrane (56) occupies a working position, defined when one or the other of the two buttons (62, 63) is actuated, in which the valve associated with the actuated button is maintained closed and obstructs the corresponding opening, while the valve associated with the other button opens by deformation of the membrane (56) effected by pressure of the pressurized water and clears the corresponding opening through which passes the pressurized water.

A thermal shield (7) is interposed between the upper surface of the sole and the casing, and is maintained on the sole by fasteners. Securement structure of the thermal shield (7) comprises, in the forward portion of the sole, an anchoring member (9) for the shield (7) to the sole (2) and, in the rear portion of the sole, a hooking device (10) for the shield (7) on the projecting ends (4, 5) of the resistance (3).

A distribution chamber (12) of an electric steam iron comprises two compartments separated in part by a partition (24) whose upper edge (20) is in sealed contact with the cover (13). A first of those compartments (26) is connected to the inlet orifice (14) of the reservoir (15) and through it passes the valve (10) of a first water injection device (11). A second of these compartments (28) communicates with the first compartment (26) through at least one throat (30) and constitutes a water reserve when the iron is used with the sole in a vertical plane. There is immersed, through the cover (13), the opening (27) of a second water injection device (21) for the second compartment (26).

An electric steam iron comprises a casing (1) whose rear provides a heel (2) and a sole (3) heated by an electric resistance (4), and is adapted to occupy two positions, either an ironing position in which it rests on the sole (3), or a rest position in which it rests on the heel (2). The sole (3) has a partition (5) forming with a closure plate (6) a vaporization chamber (7) which is supplied with water from a reservoir (8) and which, on the one hand, communicates with a steam distribution chamber (9) having outwardly opening steam distribution openings (10), and, on the other hand, comprises a so-called de-scaling opening (11) opening into a rear portion of the iron and closed by a removably mounted closure. The closure is a removable receptacle (12) for recovery of calcified deposit communicating by a weir (13) with a vaporization chamber (7), so that the calcified deposit present in the vaporization chamber (7) falls into the receptacle (12) particularly when the iron occupies its rest position.

Control device for at least two luminous condition indicating signals (30, 41) mounted on a domestic electrical appliance provided with a quick opening adjustable thermostat (2) which passes over center. An insulating support (13, 14, 15) receives a thermostat arm (11), a blade (16) forming a fixed contact, a movable blade (7) provided with a flexible tongue (20) on which bears an insulating plug (22) controlled by a rotatable screw (10) permitting obtaining a predetermined temperature, and another movable blade (8) fixed to the movable blade (7) and whose free end bears against the fixed contact as well as an insulating partition (9) fixed to the bimetal (6) and controlling the movable blades (7 and 8). The blade forming a fixed contact (16) and the movable blades (7 and 8) are fixed to the insulating support, connected respectively to electrical terminals by electrical connections (3, 4) and supply the two luminous signals (30, 41). A resilient conductive blade ( 48) having a free end (47) and an end (49) fixed to the insulating support (13, 14, 15), is connected electrically by this end to the terminal (19) and in engagement with the flexible tongue (20) by a bearing member (51). A conductive element (44) is fixed on the insulating partition (9), is connected by an electrical connection to one of the two luminous signals and is adapted to come into contact with the end (47) when the heating temperature is higher than the predetermined temperature.

A cartridge (1) for mounting in a water circuit of an apparatus (3) comprises a chamber (6) having a first orifice (4) connected to a liquid reservoir, and a second orifice (5) through which the liquid exits. The chamber also contains a resin (8) for demineralizing the liquid, as well as a state-changing material indicating saturation of the said resin, the chamber having a transparent portion (7) permitting a user to verify a color change. The transparent portion (7) comprises two juxtaposed windows (9 and 10) and a separating partition (11) arranged between the first orifice (4) and the second orifice (5), one end of which terminates at the transparent portion (7) between the two windows (9 and 10) and the other free end of which separated from the peripheral wall delimits, for the liquid, a path of predetermined length so as to permit comparison between the two windows.
