The invention relates to a method of preparing polyether-ester-amide block copolymers having recurrent units of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein A is a polyamide sequence and B a linear or branched polyoxyalkylene glycol sequence, the alkylene radical of which comprises at least two carbon atoms, and wherein n indicates that there is a great number of recurrent units. The plastic materials prepared by the novel method have mechanical properties which allow them to be used in technological transformation operations for the manufacture or moulded or extruded articles such as films, sheaths, fibres for textiles products, etc.. They may also be used for making bonded or welded linings. The novel method comprises reacting in the fused state at an elevated temperature and under high vacuum a dicarboxylic polyamide, the COOH groups of which are located at the chain ends, with a polyoxyalkylene glycol hydroxylated at the chain ends, in the presence of a catalyst constituted by a tetraalkylorthotitanate having the general formula Ti(OR).sub.4, wherein R is a linear or branched aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, such a methyl, isopropyl, butyl, ethylhexyl, dodecyl, hexadodecyl.

Mouldable and extrudable polyether-ester-amide block copolymers

A moldable and/or extrudable polyether-ester-amide block copolymer is disclosed which has the formula ##STR1## wherein A is a linear saturated aliphatic polyamide sequence formed from a lactam or amino acid having a hydrocarbon chain containing 4 to 14 carbon atoms or from an aliphatic C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 dicarboxylic acid and a C.sub.6 -C.sub.9 diamine, in the presence of a chain-limiting aliphatic carboxylic diacid having 4 to 20 carbon atoms; said polyamide having an average molecular weight between 300 and 15,000; and B is a polyoxyalkylene sequence formed from linear or branched aliphatic polyoxyalkylene glycols, mixtures thereof or copolyethers derived therefrom said polyoxyalkylene glycols having a molecular weight of between 200-6,000 and n indicates a sufficient number of repeating units so that said polyether-ester-amide block copolymer has an intrinsic viscosity of from about 0.8 to about 2.05. The polyether-ester-amide block copolymer is prepared by reacting a dicarboxylic polyamide, the COOH groups of which are located at the chain ends, with a pol-oxyalkylene glycol hydroxylated at the chain ends, in the presence of a catalyst constituted by a tetraalkylorthotitanate having the general formula Ti(OR).sub.4, wherein R is a linear branched aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 24 carbon atoms.

Process for preparing ether-ester-amide block polymers. It consists in the reaction, in the molten state of a dicarboxylic polyamide having COOH end groups with a polyoxyalkylene glycol having hydroxyl end groups in the presence of metallic tetraalkoxide(s) as catalysts. A process to synthesize poly (ether-ester-amide) sequence copolycondensates by the reaction in a molten condition between a dicarboxylic polyamide, in which the carboxylic functions are located at the chain-ends, and a polyoxyalkoylene with hydroxylated chain-ends, in the presence of a catalyst. This reaction is performed continuously in a thin-film reaction space through which the reaction mixture passes continuously under turbulent flow conditions. This process, which involves much shorter reaction times, produces sequence copolycondensates with better mechanical properties than corresponding substances obtained by batch processes.

Copolyetheresteramide based compositions which are stable with respect to the effects of heat, light and oxygen are disclosed. From about 0.05 to about 5% of 4-4'-bis-(.alpha.-.alpha.'-dimethylbenzyl)-diphenylamide either alone or in combination with 0.01 to 2% of cuprous iodide and potassium iodide such that the ratio of CuI to KI is between 0.1 and 1.9 is added to the copolyetheresteramide to form a stable composition.
