A connecting assembly interconnects one fiber optic cable harness to another fiber optic cable harness, or to an electronic unit containing an optical transmitter or receiver. The backshell includes a coupling ring that prevents loosening of the connection without first relaxing tension on the individual fiber optic cables in the cable harness. The inability to rotate the connector end coupling ring before relaxing tension on the fiber optic cables prevents damage to the individual fiber optic cables from occurring when the backshell is rotated with respect to the connector.

A solid state power controller is automatically reset if an overload trip occurs during a start-up delay period. If an overload trip occurs during load starting, the SSPC remains tripped for a reset delay period, and thereafter the SSPC is automatically reset, thereby allowing the starting process to continue by heating a lamp filament, accelerating a motor, etc., without indicating a system fault to an operator. At the expiration of the start-up delay period, the SSPC no longer automatically resets in response to an overload condition.

Power controller reset during load starting

In response to the loss of a generator in an electrical power system, all operating electrical loads are automatically switched to a second generator, and the electric power system continues to provide power to all of the loads. The total power required to operate all operating loads is permitted to exceed the nominal rated capacity of the operating generator, and the winding temperature or other critical hotspot temperature of the operating generator is monitored to determine whether thermal stress limits will be exceeded. If the critical hotspot temperature approaches the thermal stress limit, certain electrical loads are disconnected via a pre-programmed load shed priority schedule, and thereafter loads are re-connected as other loads are de-energized or if the critical hotspot temperature decreases.

Control of electric loads during generator failure in a multi-generator

A power distribution system includes a plurality of power sources and load transfer units including transistors and diodes connected in series and leading to a common power output, each of the transistors being controller switchable subject to voltage levels of the respective input and output sides of said transistors, and the voltage and current level of said common power output. The system is part of an interconnection scheme in which all but one of the power sources is connected to a single load transfer unit, enabling the survival of at least a single power source with the failure of one of the load transfer units.
