A device for placing a lung in a variety of different inflation states using positive air pressure. An exemplary device includes a housing and an air supply component. The housing includes a platform receives at least one of a synthetic lung or a real lung. The platform is at the same air pressure as a surrounding environment. The air supply component is located within the one or more internal cavities of the housing. The air supply component inflates the synthetic lung or the real lung with positive pressure.

A replaceable auger assembly includes a body having at least one material inlet defined therein and an auger disposed within the body. The auger includes a helical portion disposed about a shaft portion and a positive shutoff mechanism. The positive shutoff mechanism is configured to selectively close the material inlet.

A printhead assembly includes a carrier including a substrate and a substructure joined to a first surface of the substrate, and a plurality of printhead dies each mounted on a second surface of the substrate. The first surface of the substrate includes a surface deformation and the substructure is joined to the first surface by an adhesive. As such, the adhesive conforms to the surface deformation.

Techniques are described for constructing filter type features capable of entrapping particle contaminants to eliminate printing defects. These techniques utilize photo-imageable barrier material to fabricate various shapes and forms to reduce feature sizes. Several of these techniques utilize barrier material of height less than barrier materials used to fabricate ink feed channels and firing chamber walls. Another variation describes creation of a filter mesh from two layers of reduced height barrier materials.

A carrier for a plurality of fluid ejection devices includes a substrate and a substructure. The substrate includes a first material and has a first side adapted to receive the fluid ejection devices and a second side opposite the first side, and the substructure is formed of a second material and joined to the second side of the substrate with a lap joint. The lap joint includes a first portion formed by a portion of one of the substrate and the substructure, a second portion formed by a portion of the other of the substrate and the substructure, and a third material interposed between the first portion and the second portion.

Joining of different materials of carrier for fluid ejection devices

A wide-array inkjet printhead assembly includes a carrier including a substructure and a substrate mounted on the substructure, a plurality of printhead dies each mounted on the substrate, and an electrical interconnect adapted to communicate electrical signals between an electronic controller and the inkjet printhead assembly. The substrate has an electrical circuit formed therein such that the printhead dies are electrically coupled to the electrical circuit and the electrical interconnect is electrically coupled to the electrical circuit. As such, the substructure accommodates the electrical interconnect.
