A method of producing hydrocarbons from an underground formation having an array of horizontal wells has the steps of: inserting one or more heater strings into at least one heater well section, the heater string comprising a heating element and a flow passage for transporting fluid from a fluid input to at least one injection port; activating the heating element of the heater string to heat the formation sufficient to produce hydrocarbons from the formation immediately adjacent to the at least one heater well section; heating and injecting a solvent into the at least one heater well in the gaseous phase through the at least one injection port of the heater string such that the solvent is injected into the voidage in the at least one heater well section created by the produced hydrocarbons; and producing hydrocarbons from at least one producer well.

Low-pressure method and apparatus of producing hydrocarbons from an underground formation using electric resistive heating and solvent injection

A fluid delivery system for an inverted electric submersible pump (ESP), where the ESP has a motor section positioned above a pump section in a production path of a hydrocarbon well. The system has a supply of fluid connected to the motor section of the ESP by a supply line and a positive displacement pump that pumps fluid through the supply line to the ESP. A valve is connected between the positive displacement pump and the ESP. The valve is in an open state when the positive displacement pump is pumping fluid. A bypass line is connected in parallel to the positive displacement pump and connected between the normally closed valve and the supply of fluid, the bypass line having a check valve that permits the flow of fluid from the supply of fluid to the ESP.

Method of supplying fluid to a submersible pump

In combination, an inverted electric submersible pump (ESP) sized to fit within a downhole production path and a coiled tubing string. The coiled tubing string has an internal bore, and one or more supply lines housed within the internal bore and connected between surface and the inverted ESP. The inverted ESP has a pump section and a motor section, the motor section disposed above the pump section, and the pump section having one or more inlet ports and one or more outlet ports. At least one sealing element is positioned between the one or more inlet ports and the one or more outlet ports and is sized to seal against the downhole production path. A coiled tubing connection sealably connects the motor section to the coiled tubing string.

Method and apparatus for installing and removing an electric submersible pump

A method of hanging a cable within a coiled tubing string includes the steps of determining a length of coiled tubing required within a well having a wellhead; determining a length of a cable required within the coiled tubing, the cable having a structural component along the length of the cable sufficient to support the weight of the cable; cutting the tubing string and installing a hanger sub in the coiled tubing string toward, the wellhead attachment section relative to the downhole end, the hanger sub comprising an inner shoulder that extends radially into the hanger sub and defines an opening; and attaching an outer shoulder to the cable and inserting the cable into the coiled tubing string until the outer shoulder of the cable engages the inner shoulder of the hanger sub such that the inner shoulder positions the cable below the outer shoulder.

Method and apparatus for supporting cables within coil tubing

A method of servicing an electric submersible pump in a well with a positive wellhead pressure includes providing production tubing in the well casing, a coil tubing string within the production tubing having an electric submersible pump at a downhole end of the coil tubing string, and a pump-receiving housing above the injection port of the wellhead. With the injection port sealed and the pump-receiving housing opened, the electric submersible pump may be inserted or removed from the pump-receiving housing. With the pump-receiving housing closed and the injection port opened, the electric submersible pump may be moved to or from the production tubing in the well.
