Developer units for supplying developer material to a photoconductive member is disclosed and may include a magnetic roll having an outer surface, a first auger adjacent the magnetic roll being rotatable to convey the developer material to the outer surface of the magnetic roll, a second auger disposed below the first auger, a first trim blade disposed at a first angular position about the outer surface of the magnetic roll for leveling the developer material on the outer surface during rotation of the magnetic roll, and a second trim blade disposed at a second angular position about the outer surface of the magnetic roll for leveling the developer material on the outer surface that has been leveled by the first trim blade during rotation of the magnetic roll, the magnetic roll being rotatable to supply the developer material leveled by the second trim blade to the photoconductive member.

Developer units, electrophotographic apparatuses and methods of supplying developer material to photoconductive members

An apparatus for developing a latent image recorded on an imaging surface, including a housing defining a reservoir storing a supply of developer material including toner. A mag roll loads a toner layer onto a region of said outer surface of said donor member. A donor member, spaced from the imaging surface, moves toner on an outer surface of said donor member to a development zone opposed from the imaging surface. A shield, adjacent to said donor member and said development zone, said shield being electrical biased to generate a toner cloud between said shield and said donor member which said toner cloud releases to the development zone to develop the latent image, in response to the movement of toner on the outer surface of said donor member.

Hybrid scavengeless development system

A development system for a reproduction machine includes a pair of augers which mix and transfer the developer mixture to a magnetic roll brush system. A supply auger having a length at least as great as said magnetic brush roll is positioned along a horizontal plane and adapted to transport developer material in a direction so as to supply said material to said magnetic brush roll. The auger has a first portion thereof having an irregular blade edge and wedge shaped paddles to eliminate auger mark print defects.

A developer unit adapted to develop a latent image with toner particles. The unit includes a housing defining a chamber for storing a supply of toner particles in the chamber. The unit also includes a donor roll including an electrically non-conductive circumferential surface having a conductivity less than 10.sup.-8 (ohm-cm).sup.-1 and having a central region and opposed marginal regions disposed on either side of the central region with the diameter of the central region being less than the diameter of the opposed marginal regions. The donor roll is spaced from the latent image to form a development zone. The unit further includes an electrode member which is positioned in the development zone adjacent opposed marginal regions and spaced from the central regions of the donor roll. The electrode member is electrically biased to detach toner particles from the donor roll to form a toner powder cloud in the development zone with toner particles from the toner cloud developing the latent image.

A corona generating device of the type in which a control grid adjacent a corona generating electrode regulates the charge deposited onto an imaging surface. The control grid defines elongated apertures located in alignment with the electrode, extending along a portion thereof wherein the control grid is adapted to selectively control the charge deposited on the imaging surface area for preventing development of the edge regions thereof.

In a scavengeless development apparatus, an electrode wire is disposed between a donor roll and a latent image to form a powder cloud of toner to develop the latent image. A donor roll for the conveyance of toner in a development system for an electrophotographic printer includes an outer surface of phenolic resin. The resin is doped to a suitable conductivity to facilitate a discharge time constant thereon of less than 300 microseconds. An apparatus in which a donor roll advances toner to an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member. A plurality of electrode wires are positioned in the space between the donor roll and the photoconductive member. A support contacts the electrode wires at at least two points. One of the contact points is selected to minimize the wire edge angle between with the other of the contact points being selected to minimize the wire free span. In this way, edge banding and strobing effects are minimized.
