A drive system includes an inner race member and an outer race member. A first disengageable sprag clutch is disposed between the inner race member and the outer race member, the first disengageable sprag clutch having a drive direction and a freewheeling direction. A second disengageable sprag clutch is disposed between the inner race member and the outer race member, the second disengageable sprag clutch having a drive direction and a freewheeling direction that are opposite the drive direction and the freewheeling direction of the first disengageable sprag clutch.

Disengageable one-way directional sprag clutch

A cam phaser includes a rotor, a stator, and a cover. The rotor defines a first hole and a second hole and can rotate relative to the stator between a first intermediate position and a second intermediate position. The cover is mounted on the stator and defines a first lock pin seat and a second lock pin seat. The cam phaser includes a first lock pin and a second lock pin. The first lock pin can move along the first hole and into the first lock pin seat to lock the rotor relative to the stator at the first intermediate position. The second lock pin can move along the second hole and into the second lock pin seat to lock the rotor relative to the stator at the second intermediate position.

Variable cam phaser

The mechanical lifter generally includes an inner lift member, an outer lift member, and a roller. The inner lift member is at least partly made of a metallic material. The outer lift member is at least partly made of a polymeric material and surrounds the inner lift member. The roller is rotatably coupled with respect to the inner lift member and is partly disposed within the inner lift member. The inner lift member is configured to move a first component in response to a force applied to the roller by a second component.

Mechanical lifter

A lifter guide includes a lifter guide body having an outer surface and an inner surface that extend from a first end to a second end. The inner surface defines at least one push rod passage. A plurality of compression members are provided at the first end. The plurality of compression members project proudly from the first end. The plurality of compression members are configured and disposed to be compressed by a cylinder head to retain the lifter guide in a cylinder block. The lifter guide is devoid of mechanical fasteners.

A motion limiter system for a cam phaser includes a retractable motion limiter pin that is selectively extendable from a rotor in a cam phaser to contact a lobe on a stator to provide a positive stop for the rotor prior to engagement of a locking pin. Alternatively, the cam phaser may include two pins that are selectively extendable from opposite openings in a hole in the rotor to engage seats that are slightly offset from one another.
