A method for identifying image data bits, especially where the image data is to be reliably co-identified with collateral document has been disclosed. Such &ldquo;identification-bits&rdquo; should be carried with the image data through various stages of processing, so the image's identity can be maintained at each processing station, and can be transferred to a downstream processing station. A salient object hereof is to identify image data; especially with &ldquo;sync bits&rdquo;.

An arrangement for extracting and processing image data to form an array of re-scaled pixel data, this arrangement being part of a Normalizer/Scaler stage in an image lift/processing system, and including: a scaler for storing N different selectible scaling algorithms; a scaler-output; an input for receiving scanned lines of pixel data and feeding it sequentially line-by-line, pixel-by-pixel to the scaler, the input including 'scale factors' for selecting an algorithm; while the scaler includes a mapping stage for executing a two-dimensional mapping of adjacent pixel values and adjacent scanline values; this arrangement also including a command store for storing scaling algorithms, with a command register input for the scale factors. Preferably the scaler also includes a First ROM for storing pixel values at prescribed addresses; a Second ROM for similarly storing previous pixel values, being input in parallel with the First ROM; a Latch to which the ROMs are output; and a pixel Counter reset with each new scan line; with a 'current pixel' value input to a prescribed address in the First ROM, along with a 'pixel count' number from the Counter, plus an associated scale factor; with an Adder interposed between the ROMs and the Latch to execute addition mapping.

Imaging system with scaling/normalizing

A system for processing a stream of digital bit sets, each related to a different subject in a passing array, and including an arrangement for compressing the bit-sets and sending the results to an utilization stage; plus: a preprocessing stage for distributing each bit set in N parallel bit-compression paths, with all input sent to a common input buffer feeding these paths and each compression path being adapted to execute a prescribed first compression to ascertain 'initial factors', and then a prescribed second compression to use the initial factors, with the second compression values selected according to 'word count' factors derived from results of the first compression, and to thus provide a prescribed time-compressed output to the utilization stage; with both compressions performed according to JPEG standards; and the second compressions performed using prescribed selected QM and Huffman table values, and with a post processor stage to accept the compressed; data as 32-bit output and funnel it down to 16-bit output presented to the utilization stage.

A pipelined image processor is disclosed which contains a diagnostic apparatus which, under normal processing conditions, is coupled to and is in communication with resequencer, image processor, and transposer/compressor assemblies contained within the pipelined image processor. The diagnostic apparatus of this invention causes a diagnostic test pattern to be sent to the re-sequencer and image processor entities of the pipelined image processor and monitors the response thereof. This response is then used to detect faults which have occurred in these entities.

Diagnostic system for a parallel pipelined image processing system

System for monitoring performance of an aircraft during ground-related operating condition, such as take-off and landing, to predict whether the aircraft can safely complete the operation. The performance of various known types of aircraft is predicted as a function of the distance which the aircraft has traveled along a runway. The actual progress of a known type of aircraft along a runway is then monitored to determine the actual velocity and position of the aircraft. Using the performance model for the known aircraft type, the remaining distance required for the aircraft to accomplish a particular operation, such as to reach take-off velocity or to decelerate to a stop, is predicted. The predicted distance is compared with the actual runway distance remaining for the aircraft to travel, and an alarm signal condition is generated if the actual remaining distance is less than the predicted required distance. The comparison is also made between the measured velocity of an aircraft moving along the runway and the predicted velocity which that type of aircraft should have attained, at various locations along the length of the runway. A warning signal is generated if the actual velocity is unacceptably different from predicted. The present system also predicts safe abort points conditions. Runway/taxiway intersection monitoring and control is also provided.
