A socket for connecting an electrical component to a circuit substrate is disclosed. The electrical component has a terminal extending along a terminal axis therefrom. The socket includes a base, a contact secured to the base to electrically connect the terminal to the circuit substrate, a cover attached to the base, and an actuator. The contact includes a beam portion elongated along a beam axis, and a mating portion flexibly connected to the beam portion. The mating portion includes a first contact mating element having a first contact aperture, and a second contact mating element that is flexibly connected to the first contact mating element and has a second contact aperture. The cover has a lead-in aperture for receiving the terminal and allowing the terminal to enter one of the contact apertures. The actuator is operatively coupled to the contact, for causing the contact mating elements to rotate and to engage the terminal.

Zero insertion force socket

A contact assembly for installation in an electrical connector, provides effective electromagnetic filtering in a simple, compact, and rugged construction that facilitates in-field replacement of a damaged contact assembly. The contact assembly includes a signal conductor, a diode for diverting high voltages on the signal conductor to ground, and a 'pi' filter for filtering out unwanted frequencies. The 'pi' filter includes a ferrite bead inductor coupled to the signal conductor and a first capacitor coupling a location of the signal conductor on a first side of the inductor to ground. The other capacitor of the 'pi' filter is formed by the capacitance of the diode, with the diode connected to a signal conductor location on a second side of the inductor, and with the capacitance of the diode similar or equal to that of the first capacitor. The diode is mounted in a notch of the signal conductor, the ferrite bead inductor lies immediately forward of the notch, and the first capacitor lies immediately forward of the ferrite bead. A ground conductor has a sleeve portion that immediately surrounds both the first capacitor and the ferrite bead, and has a finger contacting the diode. Solder holds the finger of the ground conductor in place both mechanically and electrically. A quantity of epoxy fills the remaining notch area and forms the middle of the assembly with a cylindrical periphery to facilitate insertion and removal from a long narrow hole in the connector.

Filter contact

An electrical connector containing removable contacts upon which there are mounted electrical circuit components. One or more such components may be mounted on the side of each contact body. A spring provides electrical connection between the components and the grounding plate in the connector containing openings into which the contacts are removably mounted.

Electrical connector embodying electrical circuit components

An electrical connector having a contact with an insulator therearound in an opening in a ground plane. A conductive band surrounds the insulator. A spring supports the band in the ground plane opening in a position electrically connected with the ground plane. A semiconductor diode is mounted in a longitudinal notch in the contact in a position electrically connected therefrom to the band. In one embodiment the insulator is slotted at the notch exposing the diode directly to the band. In another embodiment the band has a ground clip extending to the diode from the band and the contact notches spaced from the ground plane opening. This spacing is longitudinal.

Electrical connector for transient suppression

A releasable locking mechanism is provided for an electrical connector in which a plug connector member embodies a sleeve that carries a locking ring. The ring is adapted to engage with a groove in the mating receptacle connector member. A plurality of lock pins are slidably movable over the ring to retain it in its locked position in the groove. In a preferred embodiment, the lock pins embody heads which extend through slots in the sleeve surrounding the pins. The lock pins are actuated by a coupling ring surrounding the rear portion of the sleeve.

Electrical connector locking mechanism

A releasable locking mechanism is provided for a rectangular connector in which matching grooves are formed in the outer and inner surfaces respectively of the elongated sides of the shells of the plug and receptacle halves of the connector. Elongated wires are positioned in each of the plug shell grooves. Actuating devices are located at opposite ends of the plug shell which act against inwardly extending legs on the ends of the wires for shifting the wires outwardly to become partially lodged in the grooves in the receptacle shell thereby positively locking the connector members together. The actuating devices may be retracted to allow unmating of the connector halves.

Locking mechanism for rectangular electrical connector

An electrical penetration assembly for a nuclear reactor containment wall in which solid copper conductors are removably mounted into the penetration canister from outside the containment wall. Each conductor is mounted in a feedthrough pipe by glass-sealed headers, one of which has a metal bellows that permits axial expansion of the conductor when it is subjected to elevated temperatures.

Electrical penetration assembly

An electrical connector including a housing having an axis, a receptacle, a tube-like plug shell and apparatus for mounting the plug shell inside the housing in a manner to translate in either or both of two different directions, in a manner to rotate about the housing axis, and in a manner to tilt about the housing axis. The plug shell also has a flared end portion to receive the receptacle. The plug shell carries a socket in a throat portion thereof, and the receptacle carries one or more pins to be mated to the socket. The plug shell thus is capable of moving relative to the housing in substantially an infinite number of paths to accommodate mating when the receptacle has any one of a great number of positions and entry angles and paths into the flared end portion of the receptacle. Proper mating under these circumstances is made possible in spite of any misalignment and in locations of moderate or extreme inaccessibility or under other difficult circumstances.
