The present invention relates to a halogen-free or substantially halogen-free flame-retardant composition comprising a blend of (i) at least one of each highly charring polymer (ii) at least one low volatility phosphate ester, and (iii) at least one compound which splits off a high volatility phosphorus-containing fragment.
