An interconnect for engaging a rectifier module with a rectifier cabinet has a first portion which includes AC output contacts, DC input contacts, a cabinet data signal connector and sidewalls which define an enclosed space of the rectifier cabinet. A second portion of the interconnect includes DC output contacts, AC input contacts, a module pin data signal connector and a housing which encloses a rectifier unit. A guide member is mounted to one of the first and second portions of the interconnect. A guide member hole is included with the other of the first and second portions of the interconnect for engaging with the guide member to align the first portion of the interconnect with the second portion of the interconnect. A pair of guide pins are mounted to one of the data signal connectors for engaging within sockets of the other of the data signals connectors for aligning the data signal connectors. One of the data signal connectors is moveably attached to a respective one of the rectifier module housing and the rectifier cabinet for moving to matingly engage with the other of the data signal connectors. Inserting the rectifier module within the rectifier cabinet engages the housing of the rectifier module with the sidewalls of cabinet, which aligns the guide member for engagement within a guide member hole to align the DC input and output connectors, the AC input and output connectors and the data signal connectors.

A rack mounted rectifier has a cooling fan module which is removable and replaceable in the field for servicing the rectifier when a cooling fan failure occurs. The rack mounted rectifier module includes a rectifier unit, a housing, DC output contacts, AC input contacts, and a data signal connector. The cooling fan module has a mounting bracket, a cooling fan unit which is secured to the mounting bracket, and a cooling fan connector which is mounted to the mounted bracket and electrically connected to the cooling fan motor. The housing of the rectifier unit has a socket for receiving the cooling fan module and a mating cooling fan connector for engaging the cooling fan connector to electrically connect the cooling fan unit to electric power when the cooling fan module is fully inserted within the socket. The socket for receiving the cooling fan module is open on a side of the housing of an exterior portion of the rectifier module, and is located for removing the cooling fan module only after the housing which has been partially removed from within the rectifier cabinet. The socket is located in the housing such that the cooling fan module cannot be removed from the housing until the rectifier module is at least partially removed from the enclosed space, such that the DC output contacts and the AC input contacts of the rectifier module are disconnected from mating contacts of the rectifier cabinet.

AC power is converted to a low-voltage, high-current DC output by a power supply which contains two stages. The first stage is an AC to DC converter using a full wave bridge rectifier to convert the voltage from the AC source to an intermediate raw DC voltage. The second stage is a DC to DC forward converter using a transformer with its primary winding connected to the intermediate raw DC voltage through a switch which is cycled 'on' and 'off' at a predetermined frequency. During the switch 'on' portions of the cycle a current flows in the primary winding powering the output and charging an inductor which is connected to the secondary winding. When the switch is turned 'off', no current flows through the transformer and the load is powered by the energy stored in the inductor. A secondary coil is magnetically coupled to the inductor and has a induced voltage proportional to the output voltage. A controller is used to control the duty cycle of the switch based on the voltage in the secondary coil which determines the power supply output. The duty cycle of the switch is varied in response to variations in the load.
