The present invention relates in general to a corona charger for use in an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus or the like, and more particularly to a cleaning mechanism for the corona wires of a corona charger. According to one aspect, a corona wire assembly is provided having a corona wire and a cleaning pad with a hole, the corona wire extending through the hole. According to another aspect, a method for cleaning a corona wire is provided wherein relative movement is generated between a corona wire and a cleaning pad having a hole, the corona wire extending through the hole. According to a further aspect, a cleaning mechanism for cleaning the surface of a corona wire within a corona charger is provided having a cleaning pad, a corona wire passing through the cleaning pad and positioning the cleaning pad in at least one direction lateral to the corona wire, and a holding member holding the cleaning pad without restraining the cleaning pad in the at least one direction lateral to the corona wire.

Mechanism and method for cleaning corona wires

An apparatus is provided for determining the response of an electrometer used in an electrophotographic recording apparatus. The apparatus includes a movable base disposed adjacent said electrometer. The base includes a non-conductive material. A conductive pattern is disposed on the base. The conductive pattern is electrically connected to a variable power supply. A motor moves or drives the base past the electrometer. The motor is controlled by a motor control to vary the speed of movement of said base. A method is also provided for determining the response of an electrometer used in an electrophotographic recording apparatus. The invention relates generally to development apparatus for mixing and applying developer material to a latent image on an image-bearing member in an electrostatographic reproduction machine, such as a copier or printer. More particularly, this invention relates to a blender of the type for mixing electrostatographic developer comprising a plurality of blender segments mounted on a shaft. A resilient spacer is provided, according to an aspect of the invention, wherein said resilient spacer and said plurality of blender segments are compressed between said pair of stops. Residual looseness due to tolerance stack-up is eliminated.

A mechanism for automatically cleaning the surface of a corona wire within a corona charger is described, wherein the a cleaning assembly includes a cleaning pad mounted within a pad holder, the cleaning pad wrapped around a substantial portion of a circumference of the corona wire for wiping the surface of the corona wire. The cleaning mechanism also includes means for holding the cleaning assembly within the corona charger in association with the corona wire, means, associated with the holding means, for moving the holding means linearly along the length of the corona wire, and means for automatically selectively activating the moving means to move the holding means such that the cleaning assembly is moved to clean the corona wire. In one embodiment, the cleaning assembly includes at least one finishing stone mounted to a stone holder, wherein the finishing stone engages the surface of the corona wire.

A coupling, supportable by a first and second O-ring belt, has two gear sheaves in mating contact. The inner portion of each gear sheave has a friction surface for mating with one of the O-ring belts. The rotational drive of the first O-ring is imparted to the first of the gear sheaves through the first frictional surface causing the sheave to rotate. The rotation of the first sheave then causes the second sheave, through the mating gears, to rotate in a direction opposite the direction of the first gear sheave. The frictional surface of the second sheave then imparts the rotation of the second sheave to the second O-ring. In this manner the rotational drive of the first O-ring is reversed when transmitted by the second O-ring as said O-rings support said sheaves.
