A removable roof panel system for a vehicle, includes a frame structure configured to be mounted to a roof of the vehicle. A front panel is removably mounted to the frame structure and including a front glass panel and a front panel frame. A rear panel is removably mounted to the frame structure and includes a rear glass panel and a rear panel frame. The frame structure includes a trough portion and supports a first seal configured to be disposed between the roof of the vehicle and the front and rear glass panels and a second seal disposed between the front and rear panel frames and the frame structure. A front latch system releasably secures the front panel to the frame structure and a rear latch system releasably secures the rear panel to the frame structure.

A method for coupling a sunroof glass apparatus includes the following steps: (a) moving a fixture toward a roof portion of a vehicle body in order to insert a plurality of pins of the fixture into locating holes formed in the vehicle body; (b) coupling net plates to the arms of an actuating mechanism of the sunroof assembly; (c) decoupling the fixture from the net plates while maintaining the net plates coupled to the arms of the actuating mechanism; and (d) coupling the flanges of the sunroof glass apparatus to arms of the actuating mechanism via the net plates in order to movably couple the sunroof glass apparatus to the vehicle body. In another embodiment, the presently disclosed method may additionally include coupling the net plates to the fixture before moving the fixture toward the roof portion of the vehicle body.

Method for coupling a sunroof glass apparatus to a vehicle body

In an embodiment, the presently disclosed method for coupling a sunroof assembly to a structural frame of a vehicle includes the following steps: (a) moving a sunroof module and a bond frame of the sunroof assembly through a windshield opening of the structural frame and toward a roof portion of the structural frame; (b) securing the sunroof module to the roof portion of the structural frame; (c) moving a locating fixture downwardly toward the roof portion of the structural frame; (d) inserting the frame pins of the locating fixture in frame pockets of the structural frame; (e) applying a first clamping force to the structural frame and the locating fixture; (f) inserting the sunroof pins of the locating fixture in the sunroof pockets of the bond frame; (g) applying a second clamping force to the bond frame; and (h) securing the bond frame to the sunroof module.

Method for coupling a sunroof assembly to a structural frame of a vehicle

A vehicle and a method of attaching a sunroof assembly to the vehicle are disclosed. A structural frame is provided having a roof portion. The structural frame defines a passenger compartment adjacent to the roof portion. The structural frame includes a flange extending along at least a segment of the roof portion. The flange includes a first side facing inwardly toward the passenger compartment and a second side facing outwardly away from the passenger compartment. A sunroof frame is attached to the first side of the flange from inside the passenger compartment. Furthermore, a glass apparatus is operatively connected to the sunroof frame from the second side of the flange outside of the passenger compartment. Attaching the sunroof frame to the first side of the flange occurs before operatively connecting the glass apparatus to the sunroof frame. The sunroof frame and the glass apparatus define the sunroof assembly.

Vehicle and a method of attaching a sunroof assembly to the vehicle

A modular sunroof frame assembly and method for a vehicle having a body structure is provided. The modular sunroof frame assembly is attachable to the body structure and includes right and left side rails, front and rear cross beams, and a plurality of corner attachment couplings. The right and left side rails have respective cross-sections throughout their length, front rail ends, and rear rail ends. The front and rear cross beams have respective cross-sections throughout their length, right beam ends, and left beam ends. The corner attachment couplings are fixed to the respective side rail end and to the respective cross beam end.

Modular sunroof frame assembly and method

A vehicle hood mounted air extractor assembly for extracting air from an engine compartment. The air extractor assembly includes a louver mounted to the hood and a one piece molded plastic drain pan and screen which are integrally connected together via living hinges at one side thereof, foldable at the hinges to position the drain pan beneath the screen, then snap fittingly connected together at their other sides and then readily connected to the underside of the hood louver.

An upper mount assembly for a suspension strut which incorporates an elastomer bushing operatively connecting the piston rod to support structure that works in shear over initial travel but has compression load buildup at the limit of mount travel. The mount assembly is a unitized multi-element construction having a jounce bumper to provide a load path for suspension spring assist and a load deflection curve to improve suspension characteristics. In this invention, load buildup is achieved in jounce and rebound with the use of a rate washer which is moved upwardly by the strut in jounce movement. Initial travel works the bushing in shear but the elastomer becomes compressed between the washer and an outside metal wall to provide increasing spring rate. When the rod moves vertically downwardly in rebound, the washer controls the load buildup and compresses the upper portion of the jounce bumper for soft entry into rebound.
