Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a method for correlating data including: receiving from a tracking subsystem a first data set including a tracked position of an object; receiving from an imaging subsystem a second data set including an image of the object; and comparing automatically at least a portion of the first data set with at least a portion of the second data based at least in part on the tracked position of the object and the image of the object. In an embodiment, the comparing automatically the first data set with the second data set is performable in real-time. In an embodiment, the method further includes registering the first data set with the second data set. In an embodiment, the tracking subsystem tracks the object electromagnetically, at least in part. In an embodiment, the imaging subsystem includes an x-ray imaging subsystem. In an embodiment, the first data set is generatable by the tracking subsystem substantially in real-time. In an embodiment, the method further includes determining an offset between at least a portion of the first data set and at least a portion of the second data set. In an embodiment, the method further includes performing an adjustment based at least in part on the offset on at least one of: the tracking subsystem, the imaging subsystem, and a data processing subsystem.

Methods and systems for registration of surgical navigation data and image data

A system to navigate an image-guided object traveling in an area of interest of an imaged subject in relation to an acquired image of the imaged subject as created by an imaging system is provided. The system includes a navigation system to track movement of the object in the imaged subject in spatial relation to a navigation coordinate system, and a controller. The controller is operable in detecting an image of the object in the at least one image of the imaged subject, calculating a spatial relation between the location of the image of the object and a tracked location of the object, and modifying the spatial relation of the image coordinate system relative to the navigation coordinate system so as to reduce the difference between the location of the image of the object and the tracked location of the object by the navigation system.

System and method of navigating an object in an imaged subject

A method for electromagnetic tracking the position and orientation of an object using a discretized numerical field model, rather than the conventional analytical dipole model. The method including the steps of determining a discretized numerical field model associated with a particular distortion source; acquiring mutual inductance signals between electromagnetic sensors and the particular distortion source, the sensors being rigidly attached to a tracked object; estimating an initial position for the tracked object in the presence of the particular distortion source; refining the estimated position of the tracked object; and estimating an orientation of the tracked object.
