A shelf mounting support includes an annular flange portion having a side surface from which projects a cavity defining body portion. The mounting support is adapted to extend through an aperture formed in a liner of an appliance with the body portion of the mounting support being inserted in a respective aperture from an outer insulation zone side of the liner. Each mounting support is held in the aperture through the use of one or more retainer elements in the form of an adhesive element or flexible grip members. Thereafter, the liner is positioned within an outer shell of the appliance and foamed insulation is then injected into the insulation zone and into the internal cavity of the mounting support to anchor the mounting support in position.

Shelf mounting support arrangement

A refrigerator cabinet assembly includes a cabinet shell having opposed side walls that are interconnected by a top wall and a shell bottom. Each of the side and top walls of the shell lead to front face portions which are integrally formed with return flanges for use in mounting one or more liners within the cabinet shell in a manner known in the art. In accordance with the preferred embodiment, the shell bottom is spaced rearwardly of the return flanges such that a receiving slot is defined therebetween. The cabinet assembly further includes an integrated, structural reinforcing frame mounted within the cabinet shell by sliding the frame within the receiving slot and securing the frame to the return flanges. After mounting a yoder tube, a mullion bar and the liners within the cabinet shell, a plastic toe plate is attached to the reinforcing frame. The toe plate is provided with side flanges which extend about the side walls of the cabinet shell. The reinforcing frame is provided, prior to positioning within the cabinet shell, with various attachment structure enabling door hinges, cabinet levelers and wheel assemblies to be readily secured to the overall cabinet assembly. In addition, gaps are created between side portions of the reinforcing frame and the cabinet shell to enable foam insulation to flow therebetween to further increase the overall structural integrity and thermal performance of the cabinet.

Refrigerator cabinet and method of assembling the same

A plastic kickface, that consolidates a conventional metal face plate and a plastic kickplate, extends across a lowermost frontal portion of a shell of a refrigerator cabinet assembly. At least one lower door hinge bracket is secured to reinforcement structure of the cabinet shell by fasteners that extend through tubular spacers located in holes formed in the plastic kickface. Provisions are made for creating a seal along a lower section of a door of the refrigerator cabinet assembly by interconnecting the kickface with a sealing strip that is adapted to be engaged by a section of an annular gasket attached to the door of the refrigerator cabinet assembly. When the door incorporates a magnetic sealing gasket, a metal strip is provided, with the strip being integrated into a face portion of the kickface in accordance with certain embodiments of the invention while, in accordance with another embodiment, the strip is first attached to the cabinet shell and then the kickface is interconnected to both the strip and the reinforcement structure.

A mullion bar is attached to a cabinet shell of a refrigerator through the use of a retainer that includes a first body portion positioned between primary and secondary flanges formed by the cabinet shell and a second body portion that is interengaged with additional flange structure defined by the mullion bar. More specifically, the retainer is preferably formed as an integral plastic element, with the first body portion being defined by a pair of spaced, generally T-shaped body members that are frictionally interposed between a return flange and a secondary flange of the cabinet shell. The second body portion of the retainer includes a bridge member that interconnects the body members, as well as a pair of legs which project in a direction opposite of the body members and which mate with the additional flange structure of the mullion bar. The bridge member has an upper surface that conforms to a lower curved surface of the cabinet shell flange structure and a lower surface that conforms to a terminal end of the mullion bar in order to provide a smooth, aesthetically appealing front cabinet surface arrangement with the forwardmost flange structure of the cabinet shell being arranged coplanar with the mullion bar and with the bridge member of the retainer being interposed between the cabinet shell and the mullion bar. Provisions are also made for the routing of a yoder tube between the spaced body members of the retainer and behind the mullion bar.

A refrigerator compressor mounting pan arrangement is preferably formed out of a metal plate which is drawn to form a pair of laterally spaced wheel wells that project upwardly from an upper surface of the plate. On the lower surface of the plate, on opposing side of each wheel well, are recessed pocket portions which define enlarged areas against which wheel axles can bear. A plurality of spaced tabs are lanced out of the plate adjacent each pocket such that, when a wheel having an associated axle is positioned in the well the axle bearing against the pockets, the tabs may be readily bent about the axle to retain the axle in a desired load bearing position. A plurality of additional tabs are lanced out of the plate and project upwardly from the upper surface of the plate in order to enable a compressor and a condenser to be readily secured atop the plate.

Refrigerator compressor mounting pan arrangement

A hinge assembly for the door of a refrigerated cabinet includes a hinge bracket that is secured to a cabinet weld assembly by passing a plurality of fasteners through the bracket and weld assembly and securing the fasteners to a first leg of a substantially L-shaped mounting arm such that the cabinet weld assembly is sandwiched between the first leg and the bracket. The bracket includes a load bearing surface supporting a pivot pin defining a pivot axis for the door. The mounting arm includes a second leg which is arranged at a predetermined angle, preferably ninety degrees, with respect to the first leg thereof. After the bracket is secured to the first mounting leg, the second leg assumes a static position from which it is rotated and is secured to a bottom panel of the cabinet. Rotation of the second leg of the mounting arm creates an inward preload on the cabinet weld assembly and causes a toe-in of the hinge bracket. The door, when pivotally mounted between the lower hinge bracket and an upper hinge bracket secured at the top of the cabinet, is biased upward at its handle side due to having pivoted about the upper hinge. This arrangement prevents the handle side of the door from dropping beyond a perpendicular position due to static and dynamic forces exerted thereon.
