A device for use in laparoscopic surgery is provided. The device has a plurality of telescoping sections positioned in and movable relative to a protective sheath between an extended configuration, wherein a body section of a first one of the telescoping sections is spaced apart from a body section of a second one of the telescoping sections, and a retracted configuration wherein the body section of the first one of the telescoping sections is in contact with the body section of the second one of the telescoping sections. A tissue interaction portion is configured to interact with tissue in response to the manipulation of a device actuator.

Device for use in laparoscopic surgery and method of use

A medical device and related methods are disclosed. The device has a plurality of telescoping sections and an outer sheath at least partially encapsulating the plurality of telescoping sections. The outer sheath is configured to prevent buckling of the plurality of telescoping sections. A first one of the plurality of telescoping sections has a first notch. A second one of the plurality of telescoping sections has a head portion. The first notch of the first one of the plurality of telescoping sections is configured to slidably receive at least a portion of the head portion of the second one of the plurality of telescoping sections. The first one and the second one of the plurality of telescoping sections are slidable relative to each other between and extended setting and a retracted setting.

A device for use in laparoscopic surgery is provided. The device has a sheath, a surgical action mechanism configured to deliver an action and to limit the device to a single use, at least one telescoping section configured to structurally support the surgical action mechanism, a first spacer, and a second spacer. The surgical action mechanism, the telescoping section, the first spacer, and the second spacer are configured to move within the sheath from a pre-action configuration, to an action configuration, and to a return configuration.

A device for compressing tires and other compressible items in a shipping container comprises a support frame 22 attached to the lift end of a forklift. A fixture 20 is attached to and moves vertically with the support frame. The fixture comprises a horizontal compression platen 30. A vertical pusher plate 50 extends above and below the platen. The upper pusher plate 53, which is above the platen, can fold down so that the platen can be brought near the ceiling of a shipping container above a stack of tires. The fixture weighs enough to compress tires stacked below the compression platen. Additional tires are stacked above the platen and compressed tires. The upper pusher plate is then folded up, against the tires. Two hydraulic cylinders push the pusher plate away from the support frame to pull the platen from between the tires.

The differential-pressure-sensing and variable-area-occluding fundtions within variable-area flowmeters and flow regulators are performed by separate, but mechanically connected, elements. A housing defines a channel for guiding fluid flow from an upstream to a downstream location. A differential pressure sensor moves in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of fluid flow in response to a differential fluid pressure between the upstream and downstream locations. Because the movement of the pressure sensor is substantially perpendicular to the flowing fluid with which it comes in contact, it is substantially insensitive to fluid friction and to changes in fluid viscosity. A flow obstructor connects to the sensor and moves therewith to variably obstruct the channel and its flow of fluid from the upstream to the downstream location. Fluid frictional forces on the movement of the flow obstructor vary with changes in fluid viscosity. However the ratio of the area of the flow obstructor to the area of the pressure sensor, which ratio substantially equals the ratio of the fluid frictional forces to the pressure force, is consistently low, typically 1:100. Consequently the overall flowmeter or flow regulator is relatively insensitive to changes in fluid viscosity. It typically exhibits less than .+-.1% deviation in an indicated, or regulated, flow rate for variations in fluid viscosity on the order of .times.20.

It typically exhibits less than .+-.1% deviation in indicated flow rate for viscosity variations on the order of .times.20. A viscosity-insensitive flow regulator functions equivalently.

The saturation voltage of a photoconductor used in a discharged area development (DAD) reproduction device is used to control and maintain the voltage vectors that are associated with (1) the photoconductor's fully charged background area, (2) the development electrode voltage at the reproduction device's developer station, (3) the photoconductor voltage in areas that are occupied by image characters having a small surface area, and (4) the photoconductor voltage in a test patch area that is associated with a toner concentration control network having a toner patch sensor. These electrstatic parameters are periodically adjusted, to compensate for changes in the operating characteristics of the photoconductor and the imaging station.
