A process for inhibiting the formation of scale in process equipment and conduits that form because of the presence of scale forming salts present in process fluids flowing therein is provided. In this process a scale inhibiting effective amount of an inhibiting agent selected from the group consisting of polymeric sulfates, polymeric sulfonates and mixtures thereof is added to the process fluid.

Process for inhibiting scale formation

The accumulation of inorganic mineral scale such as barium sulfate in oil field formations and/or production equipment is inhibited by adding to formation fluid or produced fluid a scale formation inhibitory amount of a polyalkoxy sulfonate of the general formula

Use of polyalkoxy sulfonate surfactants for inhibition of scale formation

A dewaxing process for reducing the pour point of waxy oils in which the oil is cooled by direct contact with a liquid autorefrigerant such as propane. The wax which separates upon cooling is removed by flotation assisted by the bubbles of vaporized autorefrigerant which rise through the oil to form a frothy slurry of wax which can be decanted and the wax recovered from it. A dewaxing solvent such as methyl ethyl ketone may be used to assist separation of the wax.
