A method for performing an update transaction in a database system that includes sending to a remote database client an update request to update data in a database system, in which the update request comprises a first checksum value corresponding to a state of the data in the database system as of the time of the update request. The method further includes receiving a reply from the remote database client that includes a new value for the data in the database system and the first checksum value. The method further includes determining whether the first checksum value matches a second checksum value corresponding to the state of the data in the database system as of the time that the database system received the reply, and if the first checksum value matches the second checksum value, the data in the database system is updated with the new value for the data.

Method and apparatus for performing real-time update transactions between a database system and remote database clients

An intranet server, memory medium and process for handling requests for resources from a downstream intranet server or a user. The intranet server is configured by a data shadowing program to locally store resources that have a high usage frequency. If a resource has not been requested for a predetermined time out period, it is deleted from local memory. Resources stored in local memory are served in response to requests for them, thus avoiding the service of such resources over the internet each time they are requested. An inquiry procedure handles status requests for new versions in either an active or a passive mode. In the active mode, the intranet server that directly interfaces with the internet periodically checks the status and receives updated versions of resources stored in its local memory. The resources stored in local memory are then served upon request from a user. In the passive mode, status inquiries are sent upstream through the intranet system then via the internet to the web server that serves the resource being requested. The web server returns a revised version only if there is one.

A method and system for performing real-time database update transactions with disconnected database clients includes a disconnected client server (DCS) and disconnected client extensions (DCE). The DCS formats the database cell, its key, any associated database cells, and a timestamp and sends them to a disconnected database client by email. The timestamp indicates the last time the database cell or associated database cells was changed. The disconnected database client sends a reply email with the update of the database cell and the timestamp. Upon receipt of the reply email, the DCS compares the received timestamp to a current timestamp for the database cell. If they match, then the database cell is updated according to the received update. If they do not match, then the update is based on outdated information and is rejected. In this manner, reliable real-time update transactions are provided between a disconnected database client and the database.

A system and method for searching recorded speech is disclosed. The system and method comprises converting the recorded speech into text using a voice recognition system. As the speech is being converted, naturally occurring breaks in the languages will be used to take time indexes from the recording. The system and method includes creating a full text index of the recorded speech utilizing an information extender. The full text index contains a plurality of time stamps that point to the occurrence of words in the recorded speech. Finally, the text is searched by a full text search server that has linguistic search capabilities using the full text index. Finally, the searched text, the text index and the recorded speech are stored in the database. The recorded speech is searched by locating relevant phrases or words, and then mapping the time stamps associated with the relevant phrases words back to the recorded speech in the database.

The encoded identifier is decoded to identify a location within the structured object. When data is to be stored, data is stored at the identified location. Both the eighth and ninth tables are used in conjunction with the extender triggers to ensure data integrity.
