Generally described, an articulated wheel fairing system for a vehicle having a steering system with a neutral steering input and a non-neutral steering input is provided. The articulated wheel fairing system provides clearance to the steer tire and wheel of the vehicle during non-neutral steering input, such as when the vehicle is turning at slower road speeds. The wheel fairing system generally includes an articulating fairing panel configured to cover at least a portion of the steer wheel, where the fairing panel movable from a first position adjacent to the steer wheel, such as when the vehicle is traveling at higher road speeds, to a second position outwardly from the first position. The wheel fairing system includes a mechanical linkage or actuator coupled to the fairing panel and the vehicle and configured to move the frame between the first position and the second position relative to the vehicle.

Articulated wheel fairing for the steer axle

A configurable, modular vehicle on common chassis platform, and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a configurable modular vehicle includes: a chassis, a power plant module configured to generate electrical energy, and a drive train module. The drive train module includes: at least one traction motor configured to receive electrical energy from the power plant module, a transmission configured to transfer torque from the traction motor to a drive axle, and the drive axle configured to transfer torque to drive wheels, and a control system module configured to control components of the power plant module and the drive train module. The interfaces of the power plant module and the drive train module are predefined, and different types of the power plant modules and the drive train modules are interchangeable within their respective predefined interfaces.

Configurable, modular vehicle on common chassis platform, and associated systems and methods

In an embodiment, a hybrid or electric truck includes a chassis including first and second rails and a plurality of cross members extending between the first and second rails, a component including first and second portions, and a support structure including first, second, and third support structures. The component extends substantially across a width of the truck. The first support structure is configured to support the first portion and attach to the first rail. The second support structure is configured to support the second portion and attach to the second rail. The third support structure is attached to a cross member of the plurality of cross members and at least one of the first or second portions.

Chassis mounted assemblies for electric or hybrid vehicles

A cab-over-engine vehicle is described wherein the cab is supported in a level orientation on the vehicle's chassis. A cab repositioning system raises the cab while maintaining the cab in the level orientation, thus exposing the engine to be worked on. A service step structure that is hidden within the exterior body when the cab is over the engine is deployed when the cab is raised. The service step structure is connected to the underside of the cab such that the service step structure swings down and away from the exterior body to provide access to the raised level cab at the same time allowing access to the engine.

Self-deploying service step

A cab suspension and repositioning system () for a truck includes a control arm assembly () having two control arms () with distal ends pivotably attached to a truck chassis () and proximal ends pivotably attached to a cab (), and one or more follower control arms () having a distal end pivotably attached to the chassis () and a proximal end pivotably attached to the cab (). Cab suspension assemblies () releasably lock the cab () to the chassis () during operation. The control arm assembly () further provides motion control to the cab (). Hydraulic cylinders () engage the control arm assembly () and are operable to move the cab () between an operating position adjacent the chassis and an access position away from the chassis () substantially without rotating the cab (). A control system () powers the cylinders () and controls the transition between the operating and access positions.

Cab suspension and repositioning system

A chassis for a vehicle is suitable for mounting the engine of the vehicle between the forward and rear axle assemblies of the vehicle. A first forward rail is positioned opposite a second forward rail, and an engine cradle is positioned between the forward and rear axle assemblies. The engine cradle has first and second upper rails. A forward portion of the first upper rail is angled toward the second upper rail, and a rear portion of the first upper rail is angled toward the second upper rail. A middle portion of the first upper rail is parallel to a middle portion of the second upper rail. The engine cradle further includes first and second lower rails disposed below the first and second upper rails. A plurality of support members coupled the lower first and second lower rails to the first and second upper rails, respectively.

Mid-engine chassis

A universal coupling is provided that aims to achieve constant velocity between the input and output shafts. The universal coupling also aims to increase the angle between input and output shafts over conventional double Cardan joints while maintaining constant velocity or near constant velocity therebetween. The universal coupling can employ a Sarrus type linkage in-between two universal joints of the Cardan type in a configuration that aims to achieve joint angles up to and including 90 degrees in the Y-Z plane, while maintaining constant velocity or near constant velocity therebetween.

Vehicles are described including a cab having a door opening on a side thereof, a chassis that supports the cab, two or more steps leading to the door opening, each of which is supported by the cab or the chassis, wherein the steps are placed within the recesses in the cab or chassis, and a door connected to the cab, wherein the door fits within the door opening, and the door comprises a lower door extension having a lower edge that terminates near to an upper surface of a lowermost step, the lower door extension covers a majority of the one or more recesses, and the lower door extension extends outboard to match the outboard extension of a fender or exterior cab side panel to provide a coplanar transition from the fender to the door, or from the door to the exterior cab side panel, or both.
