Cosmetic deodorant preparation containing di- or triglycerin esters

A process for producing diglycerin having a low content of cyclic components by reacting glycerin with epichlorohydrin by a continuous process in which the epichlorohydrin required for the reaction is introduced into at least one flow reactor at several separate spots or reaction zones mutually separated in space in the direction of flow; the reacted reaction mixture is substantially freed of excess glycerin in at least one evaporator; the remaining chlorohydrin/ether mixture is hydrolyzed in at least one first step with a 5 to 40 mole % excess alkali carbonate solution, calculated with respect to organically bound chlorine in the chlorohydrin ether, at a pH of 6.5 to 9.5, and hydrolysis is at least substantially completed in a second step with an alkali hydroxide at a pH above 10; the resulting hydrolyzed crude product solution is adjusted to a pH of 5.5 to 8 with a mineral acid, preferably hydrochloric acid; and the resulting solution is condensed, precipitating salts are removed, and the diglycerin solution containing less than 8% by weight residual inorganic salts is freed of cyclic diglycerin and residual glycerin in a flash evaporator. Apparatus for carrying out the foregoing method is also disclosed.

A process for preparing polyglycerol fatty acid ester mixtures in which a polyglycerol mixture of 0.1 to 20 wt % monoglycerol, 20 to 35 wt % diglycerol, 30 to 40 wt % triglycerol and 49.9 to 5 wt % tetra- and higher polyglycerols is reacted with one or more fatty acids, selected from the saturated C.sub.8 - to C.sub.18 -fatty acids (containing 0 to 15 wt % unsaturated fatty acids), in a molar ratio of the polyglycerol to the fatty acid component of 0.3:1.5 to 1.5:0.5 in the presence of at least one catalyst and at reduced pressure, by initially heating the reaction mixture to at least 140.degree. C. and reducing the pressure to at least 600 mbar and then heating the reaction mixture at a temperature from 140.degree. to 220.degree. C. and reducing the pressure from 600 to 10 mbar. After completion of the reaction, the resulting polyglycerol fatty acid ester mixture is cooled and optionally worked up and/or purified. Also disclosed are polyglycerol fatty acid ester mixtures prepared by the process, a liquid thickening agent, an oil/water emulsifier, and the use of the polyglycerol fatty acid ester mixture in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and other chemical preparations.

A process for preparing a nonionic surfactant includes the steps of: cleaving at least one of the isopropylidene groups of an isopropylidene polyglycerol C.sub.6 -C.sub.22 -fatty acid or mono- or polyhydroxy fatty acid ester, by hydrolysis or ketal exchange, in the presence of acid, at a temperature in the range of about 20.degree. C. to about 100.degree. A process for the preparation of a composition containing diglycerol, in which process at least a stoichiometric amount of isopropylideneglycerol is reacted with .alpha.-monochlorohydrin in the presence of at least one alkaline compound at sufficient temperatures to yield an intermediate product composition containing monoisopropylidenediglycerol and a salt. Most of the salt and water formed is removed from the intermediate product composition, and any unreacted isopropylideneglycerol is removed by distillation. The present invention relates to a process for preparing ultrapure epichlorohydrin from epichlorohydrin containing technical impurities, by fractional distillation under particular conditions, preferably with continuous operation, that yield a product of very high purity and very low content of halogenated hydrocarbons. A method of making 2,2-dimethyl-4-(2',3'-epoxy)propoxymethyl-1,3-dioxolane is disclosed, wherein isopropylidene glycerol and epichlorohydrin are reacted in a molar ratio of 0.7:1.0 to 1.0:0.7, respectively, in the presence of at least one Lewis acid or at least one strong inorganic acid at temperatures 283.degree. K. to 373.degree. This compound is suitable for use as an intermediate for the production of nonionic and/or ionic surfactants, as a reactive diluent and as an auxiliary solvent and auxiliary stabilizer.

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polyglycerols (with more than 50% by weight of diglycerol) which are low in cyclic components, by reacting glycerol with chlorohydrins. In this reaction, glycerol is reacted with epichlorohydrin (instead of chlorohydrin) at temperatures from 20.degree. to 120.degree. C. and at certain mole ratios of glycerol to epichlorohydrin and in the presence of an acidic catalyst and the reaction mixture obtained, which has not been separated into its components, is reacted at a temperature from 50.degree. C. to 120.degree. C. according to the content of organically bound chlorine in the reaction mixture, with an alkaline-reacting, preferably aqueous solution. After the addition of water, the reaction mixture is desalinated via one or more cation and subsequent anion exchangers, dehydrated by distillation and the glycerol-polyglycerol mixture obtained is separated by fractional distillation into glycerol, diglycerol and higher polyglycerols.

A process for the preparation of fatty acid or hydroxy fatty acid esters of isopropylidene derivatives of a polyglycerol involves reacting C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl esters of C.sub.6 -C.sub.22 -fatty acids or mono- or polyhydroxy fatty acids in alkaline medium with one or more hydroxyl-containing isopropylidene derivatives of a polyglycerol. The resultant fatty acid or hydroxy fatty acid esters of mono- and/or diisopropylidene derivatives of polyglycerol are useful as intermediates for the preparation of nonionic surfactants, as solvents or solubilizing agents and for cosmetic formulations and skin care preparations.
