A method of intercepting and cementing an existing well is disclosed that includes supplying an alignable guidance device including a tube section and a casing milling shoe. The alignable guidance device includes a pre-contoured tube within the casing milling shoe that terminates in an exit point and guidance sensors. The method also includes running the alignable guidance device into a wellbore and aligning the alignable guidance device relative to a casing. In addition, the method includes after aligning the alignable guidance device, holding in place or anchoring the alignable guidance device and inserting a casing milling tool having a microturbine attached to coiled tubing into the pre-contoured tube. The method may also include cutting a hole in the in-situ casing with the microturbine and releasing the microturbine from the coiled tubing. Also, the method may include cementing through the coiled tubing.

Alignable guidance device for casing entry milling and cementing operations

According to one aspect of the disclosure, an intercept well for penetrating an existing tubular is drilled. A casing entry tool is provided in the intercept well and operated to form at least one aperture in the wall of the existing casing. The casing entry tool may be oriented toward the target tubular. In some embodiments, a generally concave notch may be positioned on the casing entry tool and adapted to engage with the convex outer surface of the target tubular. In some embodiments, a locking mechanism may retain the orientation of the casing entry tool within the intercept well.

Method and apparatus for casing entry

A down-hole drilling apparatus includes a bearing housing defining a longitudinal axis and upper and lower portions. The upper portion of the bearing housing is configured for connection to a drill string, and at least one annular bearing package disposed within the bearing housing. A drill bit is coupled to the bearing housing and rotatable with respect to the longitudinal axis. The drill bit includes a leading body supporting a plurality of cutters thereon for engaging a subterranean rock formation, a shank portion projecting from the leading body, and a mandrel portion engaging the shank portion and defining an inseparable connection therewith. The mandrel portion extends longitudinally into the bearing housing and through the at least one annular bearing package.

An apparatus for use in a horizontal section of a drill string is disclosed. The apparatus includes a motor that is connected to the horizontal section of the drill string. The motor is adapted to impart vibrations in the horizontal section of the drill string, where the vibrations are at about the lateral resonant frequency of the horizontal section of the drill string.

An apparatus and a method for generating electrical power are disclosed. The apparatus includes a mud motor including a rotor. The rotor is capable of eccentric motion and has a rotor end. The apparatus further includes an inverse magnetostrictive device having a magnetostrictive element. The magnetostrictive element has a flexing end that is affixed to the rotor end.
