An ablation applicator for an ablation device for ablating tissue of a blood vessel having a tubular body defining an inner lumen to which an ablation medium is conductible, a control mechanism for converting the tubular body between a passive operation mode for inserting the ablation applicator into the blood vessel and an active operation mode for ablating tissue of the blood vessel, and an ablation medium supply line for supplying the ablation medium to the inner lumen and positioned within the inner lumen and having a number of openings for passing the ablation medium from the ablation medium supply line to the inner lumen for thermally contacting the ablation medium with the tubular body wherein at least some of the openings are distributed along the ablation medium supply line with a predetermined spacing between neighboring openings. The ablation device can include a first temperature sensor arranged within the inner lumen and an ablation medium return line inside the tubular body made from a material that defines the active shape of the applicator.

A catheter device for ablating biological material is described. The catheter device comprises (a) a longitudinal structure; (b) an applicator for ablating the biological material, wherein the applicator is installed at the longitudinal structure; (c) a first electrode being attached to the longitudinal structure; (d) a second electrode being attached to the longitudinal structure; (e) an interface being connected directly or indirectly to the longitudinal structure; (f) a first lead electrically connecting the first electrode with the interface; and (g) a second lead electrically connecting the second electrode with the interface. The interface is configured for electrically connecting the first lead and the second lead with a measurement device for electrically stimulating the first electrode and the second electrode and for detecting an electric quantity being associated with an electric response of an biological material being located in between the two stimulated electrodes. An ablation device comprising an ablation applicator adapted for ablating material from an object upon delivery of an ablation medium to the ablation applicator in an ablation mode, an ablation medium supply line adapted for supplying the ablation medium to the ablation applicator in the ablation mode, an ablation medium drain line adapted for draining the ablation medium received from the ablation applicator in the ablation mode, and a closure mechanism adapted for selectively enclosing a predefined volume in a fluidic path upon operating the ablation device in a no-flow mode or upon detecting a leak in the fluidic path, the fluidic path including the ablation applicator and being defined between the ablation medium supply line and the ablation medium drain line.
