Methods of determining if a test fluid is inert to reservoir oil at RTP, by assaying a composition, density and bubble or dew point of live oil to generate a first dataset, equilibrating a sample of live oil with a test fluid at RTP to generate an oil phase; assaying a composition, density and bubble or dew point of the oil phase to generate a second dataset; comparing the first and second datasets, wherein significant changes in the datasets indicate that the test fluid is not inert to reservoir oil at RTP. By contrast, if there are no significant changes, the test fluid is inert, and would therefore be suitable to collecting core samples at RTP. Various options for inert fluids are also provided.

Inert fluid assays for sealed core recovery

A high pressure core chamber for use in collecting pressurized core samples from a reservoir is equipped with at least two high pressure access valves, allowing the core chamber to also function as a vessel for various high pressure experiments. In some embodiments, the core chamber is also equipped with a heater, allowing high pressure, high temperature experiments, and thus duplicating reservoir conditions. Various assays using the core chamber are also described.

Method of optimizing well placement in an unconventional reservoir, by obtaining a plurality of produced oil, produced water and produced gas samples from an unconventional reservoir over a period of time, and obtaining a plurality of rock samples from the reservoir. Each of those plurality of samples is chemically fingerprinted, as well as assigned time and location identifiers. This data is then used to generate a plurality of reservoir maps over time and those maps then used to optimizing well placement in the reservoir.

Time-series geochemistry in unconventional plays

A tool for screening unconventional reservoirs to determine the location of economically important accumulations of hydrocarbons early in a reservoir development process is described. Once the accumulations are identified, subsequent process such as drilling wells and producing hydrocarbons can begin.

Resource density screening tool

Methods and systems are provided for rapidly estimating the hydrocarbon production potential of a subsurface hydrocarbon shale prospect or prospects. In short, the methods disclosed herein provide rapid mechanisms to determine sorbed gas storage of a shale reservoir with minimal delay and resource expenditure to aid operators in determining which prospects to exploit. In certain embodiments, an empirical implemented method for rapidly assessing hydrocarbon content of a shale reservoir comprises extracting one or more shale samples, performing a rock eval pyrolysis on the shale samples to determine certain geochemical properties of the shale, using the geochemical properties to determine a thermal maturity of the shale, determining a Langmuir volume of the shale, generating a adsorption isotherm of the shale, and determining a gas storage capacity of the shale. Advantages of the methods include a more efficient and rapid determination of shale gas storage with a minimal expenditure of resources.

Shale analysis methods

Methods and systems are provided for allocating production among reservoir compartments by way of compositional and isotopic analysis. That is, where individual reservoir compartments contribute differing amounts of fluid to a commingled production stream, the methods herein determine the relative contribution of fluid volume from each reservoir compartment. Both a composition-based relative contribution and an isotope-based relative contribution of fluid from each reservoir compartment may be determined to allocate production to each reservoir compartment, the determinations respectively being based on composition mass balances and stable carbon isotope mass balances of components. The combination of both allocation analysis provides quality checks on the results that identify improper allocations that may arise. In addition to production allocation, other applications include, among others, determining the effectiveness of intervention operations and providing feedback for adjusting operations. Advantages include lower costs, higher accuracies, and ease of use as compared to conventional methods.

Hydrocarbon production allocation methods and systems

An easy access arrow quiver is removably mountable to a bow. A hollow, elongated, generally cylindrical enclosure features an elongated, longitudinally oriented aperture through which arrows may be inserted and removed. A rotatable rod disposed centrally within the enclosure includes a pair of spaced-apart arrow-retainment disks, each having a shaped perimeter defining a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart arrow-shaft retainment clips, the disks being rotationally positioned respectively about the rod so that the clips on each disk are longitudinally aligned. A coupling unit, which has a first portion making physical connection to the enclosure and a second portion which attaches to the bow, permits the enclosure to be removably mounted to the bow such that the longitudinal dimension of the enclosure and the aperture are generally parallel to the drawstring of the bow. The quiver may further include a handle supported on the outer surface of the enclosure, and, in this configuration, the first portion of the coupling unit preferably makes physical connection to the enclosure by way of the handle. As a further option, the centralized rod attaches to a pair of opposing endcaps, each endcap engaging with a respective end of the enclosure and extending sufficiently outwardly therefrom to enable a user to rotate the rod by turning either of the endcaps.
