A push pad releasable exit device with continuous deadlocking for mounting near a door edge for engaging a lock strike includes a housing having first and second sidewalls upon which are mounted two end walls and an internal wall parallel to the end walls, each of the end walls and the internal wall having a hole, the holes being aligned on a common axis, the first sidewall having a wedge stop projecting inwardly therefrom toward the axis of the holes in the end walls and the internal wall; a tapered latch bolt mounted on a cylindrical shaft the shaft extending through the holes and having a provision for urging the latch bolt toward the lock strike; a wedge plate having a hole providing clearance around the shaft and aligned with the holes in the end walls, having a tab pivotally resting in a slot of the second wall, and having a corner distal from the tab resting against the wedge stop when the door is in an open position; a provision for sensing when the door is in a closed position and for flipping the wedge plate away from the wedge stop to grip the shaft and to thereby deadlock the latch bolt; and further provision for releasing the shaft in response to minimal deflection of the push pad to permit the latch bolt to ride over the lock strike driven only by the normal force required to open the door.

An apparatus for providing an electrical connection from a power source, through a stationary door frame, into a door to connect to door-mounted electrically-operated hardware, includes an electrical junction box installed in a mortise cavity in the door frame adjacent to a similar electrical junction box installed in a mortise cavity in an edge of the door. The junction boxes are adjacent each other when the door is in a closed position; and a housing is installed in each junction box, each housing having a longitudinal slot in a face plate thereof of a length substantially equal to the length of the junction box. A cover plate is longitudinally slidably engaged in grooved fingers on a rear surface of the face plate, the cover plate having a substantially circular hole. A hollow tube, having an elbow swivelably mounted on each end, has one elbow swivelably engaged in the substantially circular hole of the cover plate of the housing mounted in the door frame and the other elbow swivelably engaged in the substantially circular cover plate of the housing mounted in the door. A conductor cable connected to a power source, in the junction box mounted in the door frame, extends through the elbows and the hollow tube into the junction box mounted in the door, and connects to leads to door hardware mounted in or on the door.

A door lever assembly for disengaging an unlocked latch of a lockable door latch assembly includes a lever handle rotatably connected to a trim housing supporting a stop plate. A cam is operably connected to the lever handle and positioned to rotate in response to rotation of the lever handle, converting its rotational movement to linear movement of a movable slider positioned adjacent to the cam. A lift arm is operably connected to vertical rods of the door latch assembly and an over-ride spring is connected between the slider and the lift arm. The over-ride spring transmits motion of the slider to the lift arm to lift the lift arm and the connected vertical rods when the door latch assembly is in an unlocked position. The over-ride spring compresses in response to slider movement when the blocking slide is positioned to block movement of the lift arm when the door latch assembly is in its locked position, preventing damage to components of the door lever assembly. In an unlocked position, a pivot rotates to control contact between the slider and the stop plate.

A door lever assembly having a locked and an unlocked position includes a trim housing and a lever handle and cam rotatably connected to the trim housing. A rotatable shaft extends between the lever handle and the cam, with the shaft defining a connection groove therethrough to provide access to a shaft interior. The shaft interior is configured to a accept a pin for connecting the cam and the shaft. This pin can be resettably disconnected following controlled slippage of frictional contact surfaces in response to excessive force applied to rotate the cam.

A lift arm is operably connected to the slider to engage and disengage door latches in response to movement of the slider when the door lever assembly is unlocked. When the door lever assembly is locked, an over-ride spring connected between the slider and the lift arm compresses in response to slider movement, preventing damage to components of the door lever assembly. When the door lever assembly is unlocked, a pivot rotates to control contact between the slider and the stop plate.

A door lever assembly having a locked and an unlocked position includes a trim housing and a lever handle and cam rotatably connected to the trim housing. A rotatable shaft extends between the lever handle and the cam, with the shaft defining a connection groove therethrough to provide access to a shaft interior. The shaft interior is configured to accept a pin for connecting the cam and the shaft. This pin can be wedgably disconnected following controlled slippage of frictional wedge surfaces in response to excessive force applied to rotate the cam.

A cam is rotatably connected to the trim housing, and a pin mechanism is movably positionable to connect with the lever handle. The lift arm is rigidly movable with the slider when the door lever assembly is in its unlocked position and the lever handle is rotated. When the door lever assembly is in its locked position, the lift arm pivots toward the cam to disengage the pin mechanism from its connection between the lever handle and the cam.

A door lever assembly for disengaging an unlocked latch of a lockable door latch assembly includes a lever handle rotatably connected to a trim housing and a cam operably connected to the lever handle. The cam is positioned to rotate in response to rotation of the lever handle, converting its rotational movement to linear movement of a movable slider positioned adjacent to the cam. An electrically activated block arm is positionable to prevent movement of the movable slider, effectively locking the door lever assembly.

A latch assembly for a fire door having a pushpad for emergency exit is described. The pushpad is connected to a rod to transfer motion of the pushpad to the latch assembly. The latch assembly includes a platform attached to the fire door, a linkage assembly attached between the rod and a latch bolt, and a deadlock arm assembly attached to the platform. The deadlock arm assembly is movable between a first position to block movement of the linkage assembly and a second position to allow movement of the linkage assembly. A fire fuse assembly is also attached to the linkage assembly to move the deadlock arm assembly out of its first position blocking movement of the linkage assembly at normal room temperature. The fire fuse assembly is configured to melt at temperatures substantially above normal room temperature to prevent engagement between the fire fuse assembly and the deadlock arm assembly, effectively preventing movement of the deadlock arm assembly out of its first position blocking movement of the linkage assembly in response to movement of the rod.

A door lever assembly for disengaging an unlocked latch of a lockable door latch assembly includes a lever handle rotatably connected to a trim housing and a cam operably connected to the lever handle. The cam is positioned to rotate in response to rotation of the lever handle, converting its rotational movement to linear movement of a movable slider positioned adjacent to the cam. A lift arm is operably connected to vertical rods of the door latch assembly and an over-ride spring is connected between the slider and the lift arm. A fluid shear coupling comprises a driving member having a disc-shaped portion and a driven member defining a working chamber in which the driving member is received, the two members being mounted for relative rotation about a common axis, the driven member defining an annular groove facing the side of the driving member and further defining a circumferential cavity facing the outer perimeter of the driving member, and a one-piece, L-shaped dam having a radially extending portion received within the annular groove and an axially extending portion received within the circumferential cavity, each of the radially and axially extending portions including a first ramp surface facing in one direction and a second ramp surface facing in the other direction.

A fluid shear coupling apparatus including a driving member comprising a rotor mounted to a shaft. A driven member including a bearing housing is mounted to the shaft. A complementary surface between the driven member and the driving member is provided between which a shear fluid provides variable coupling according to the proportion of fluid in the reservoir vis-a-vis the fluid shear chamber defined by the complementary surface. A temperature responsive valve is provided to modulate the shear fluid level. The valve may modulate an overlapping inlet having a constant area. An overlap inlet may be define by an arcuate slot or by a fixed size valve aperture. The valve may be pivotable on a valve axis which is eccentric to, and radially outward of, the common axis of the driving and driven members. Temperature responsive rotation of the valve member may be provided by coupling links or by gearing mechanism.
