A controller having dedicated fuser circuitry and a processor for controlling the fuser heating element. The dedicated fuser circuitry interconnects an input voltage source to the processor through a low voltage power supply to provide a reference signal and a sample DC voltage signal representative of the input voltage source. The processor provides a digital signal to activate a triac connected to the fuser heating element. The triac, selectively gates the input voltage source across the heating element. A plurality of ranges of digital signals and a plurality of corresponding triac activation rates are provided for variations in input voltage. A digital signal related to a particular value of the input voltage source lies within one of the plurality of ranges determining the particular activation rate of the triac.

Open loop fuser control

A heat regulator for a fuser in a reproduction machine. The heat regulator includes a fuser cooling fan, and a controller having a cooling fan counter. The cooling fan counter manifests the number of copies reproduced up to a predetermined maximum in response to a document scan switch. The contents of the cooling fan counter is the basis for determining the length of time of operation of the cooling fan at the end of a reproduction run. Specifically, the machine cooling fan maintains operation during machine cycle out at the end of a reproduction run for a three second period for each count in the cooling fan counter up to a predetermined maximum.

Heat regulator for the fusing device in an electrostatic copier

Diagnostic capability is provided by setting a machine in a jam condition and using non-diagnostic dedicated circuitry. A selector switch is switched from a first predetermined number to a second predetermined number while simultaneously activating a start operation switch. Machine logic is then advanced to a diagnostic state. To exit the diagnostic state, a routine jam clearance is accomplished and the machine returns to the stand by state for normal operation.
