A bypass blade is pivotably connected to the first terminal pad, and movable between open and closed positions. The bypass blade is electrically connected between the first and third terminal pads when in the closed position. A first disconnect blade is pivotally connected to a second terminal pad and movable between open and closed positions. The first disconnect blade is electrically connected between the first and second terminal pads when in the closed position. A second disconnect blade is pivotally connected to a fourth terminal pad and movable between open and closed positions. The second disconnect blade is electrically connected between the third and fourth terminal pads when in the closed position. An interrupter lever is connected to an interrupter and electrically connected to the third terminal pad. A hook ring is connected to the first and second disconnect blades. The hook ring is movable between closed and open positions. Moving the hook ring from the closed position to the open position moves the first and second disconnect blades from the closed position to the open position, moves the bypass blade from the open position to the closed position and moves the interrupter lever to trip the interrupter internally to break a residual current path between the second disconnect blade and the third terminal pad.

A resistance assembly having a resistance member prevents accidental movement of a hookstick operated switching assembly. A switch assembly of the hookstick operated switching assembly is mounted on a base. The resistance member includes a lever connected to the switch assembly that moves the switch between opened and closed positions. A first end of a pin is connected to the lever. A resistance member is connected to a second end of the pin. The resistance member contacts the base when the lever rotates to move the switch assembly between open and closed positions, thereby preventing accidental opening and closing of the switch assembly.

Resistance assembly for hookstick operated switching assembly

A group operated overhead switch for high voltage power lines includes a rotatable overtoggle mechanism linked to a control shaft and a plurality of switch phases secured to a crossarm support. The overtoggle mechanism may be rotated to and from a closed position and an open position, either or both of which may be overtoggled, that provides the operator with an affirmative snap when the switch is moved into an overtoggled position. The use of switch assemblies made of rotatable switch phases and a corresponding immobile electrical connector mounted on the same assembly support allows factory manufacture of modular switch assembly components for high quality control, consistent performance, and accurate component alignment. The supported switch assemblies are then mounted under factory controlled conditions on a dimensionally stable support crossarm and linked by group operated linkages with a switch overtoggle mechanism for actuation. The entire switching assembly may be mounted on a utility pole as a pre-manufactured unit.

An insulator assembly includes first and second terminal pads having angularly oriented first and second portions. First openings in the first portions facilitates connecting to the first and second switch assemblies. Second openings in the second portions receives fasteners. The first and second switch assemblies and a bypass switch assembly are mounted to a base. The bypass switch assembly is electrically parallel to the first and second switch assemblies. A support mounting bracket is attached to the base to secure the base to a support.

An insulator assembly has a mounting bracket for securing the insulator assembly to a support structure. The mounting bracket has a base having a first end and a second end. A first leg has a first end attached to the first end of the base and has a second end. A second leg has a first end attached to the second end of the base and has a second end. A first foot extends from the second end of the first leg. A second foot extends from the second end of the second leg.

A fuse cutout for connection to a power source, includes a mounting having upper and lower support members extending from opposing ends of the mounting. A holder member is fixedly attached to the lower support member of the mounting and a pivot member is received in the holder member at a first pivot point. The pivot member is movable between first and second positions. A lever member, movable between non-release and release positions, has unitary first and second portions. The first portion is pivotally coupled to the pivot member. A fuseholder, movable between closed and open positions, has upper and lower ends, the lower end being pivotally coupled to the pivot member at a second pivot point. The first and second positions of the pivot member and each of the closed and open positions of the fuseholder, correspond to each of the non-release and release positions of the lever member.

A hookstick operated switch assembly includes a switch mounted to a support and movable between open and closed positions. An operating lever is connected to the switch for opening and closing the switch. A locking arm is positioned proximal the switch. A locking member is receivable by the locking arm when the switch is in the open position to prevent movement of the operating lever, thereby locking the switch in the open position.

An insulator assembly has a spacer for conducting electrical current from the terminal pad of a bypass switch assembly to the contact of a switch assembly. The insulator assembly has a base. A first switch assembly is connected to the base and has a first switch blade movable between open and closed positions. A second switch assembly is connected to the base and has a second switch blade movable between open and closed positions. A bypass switch assembly is connected to the base and has a bypass switch blade movable between open and closed positions. The bypass switch assembly has a first conductor electrically connected to the bypass switch blade when the bypass switch blade is in the closed position. A support member is connected to the first conductor and has an opening. A second conductor is electrically connected to the first switch blade when the first switch blade is in the closed position. A spacer is disposed in the support member opening to transfer electrical current from the first conductor to the second conductor. The spacer has a first surface in electrical contact with the first conductor and has a second surface in electrical contact with the second conductor.

An insulator assembly has a base assembly that is rigidly connected and is not prone to movement over time. A first support member has first and second ends with first and second pluralities of holes for receiving a first switch assembly. A second support member has first and second ends with third and fourth pluralities of holes for receiving a second switch assembly. A third support member has first and second ends. The first end of the third support member is attached to the first support member and the second end of the third support member is attached to the second support member. The third support member has a fifth plurality of holes for attaching the base assembly to a support.

Base assembly for an insulator assembly

A base spacer that is useful for securing a horizontal member to a vertical support with accurate vertical and horizontal position has an extended horizontal surface and at least one deformable finger extending vertically from this horizontal surface. The horizontal surface also has: (a) a pair of oval openings dimensioned to receive securing bolts, wherein the deformable finger extends from the horizontal surface at less that a right angle for a distance sufficient to contact a horizontal member secured by the spacer.

A fuse cutout for connection to a power source comprising, a mounting having upper and lower support members extending from opposing ends of the mounting, respectively. A holder member fixedly attached to the lower support of the mounting. A pivot member received in the holder member at a first pivot point, the pivot member being movable between first and second positions. A fuseholder having upper and lower ends, the lower end being pivotally attached to the pivot member at a second pivot point, the fuseholder being movable between closed and open positions corresponding to the first and second positions of the pivot member, respectively. A first biasing member disposed between the pivot member and the lower end of the fuseholder at the second pivot point, biasing the pivot member toward the second position. The pivot member includes a planar cam surface that engages a lower contact of the holder member.

A pivoting connection is described that uses an H-shaped connector secured within the X-shaped opening of a base. One end of the H shaped connector can be inserted into the X-shaped opening at an angle corresponding to one leg of the X but is secured in the opening when twisted to a vertical position. This pivoting connection provides a reliable connection that is durable, weather resistant, and does not readily seize.

Steady lever

A system comprising a portable apparatus and employing a method of admittance versus frequency analysis to detect the existence of a fault in a de-energized electrical line regardless of whether the line contains branches. The portable apparatus comprises a capacitor unit detachably connected to a de-energized line, ground or a neutral conductor, a switch unit detachably connected to a de-energized line, the de-energized line being tested, and an insulated cable connecting the capacitor unit to the switch unit. The switch unit comprises a discharge switch that can be activated by pulling on the hot line tool. The capacitor unit comprises a capacitor which is discharged into the electrical line via the insulated cable and the switch unit when the discharge switch is activated to create a pulse. The capacitor unit comprises circuitry for generating voltage and current samples of pulse response signals and a microprocessor for determining the admittance of the electrical line using Fast Fourier transforms of the current and voltage samples. The admittance of the line is compared with stored data relating to lines having different load impedances and having faults located at various distances from the capacitor unit and detectable at various frequencies to determine the existence of a fault.
