A pay telephone housing comprises a large capacity vault having a floor, first and second side walls, and a back wall. The vault includes a front opening and a peripheral rim extending at least partly around the front opening and having a rear edge. A removable vault door is provided for covering and uncovering the front opening and includes first and second locking plates which are operable to be extended to a locking position at least partly behind the rear edge of the peripheral rim to prevent the removable vault door from being removed from the vault. A key operated lock assembly is operable for selectively locking the first and second locking plates in the locking position.

Telephone housing with large capacity vault

A coin receptacle cover for attachment to a coin receptacle box and subsequent use in a pay telephone comprising a panel, connectable to a coin receptacle box, which defines an opening therethrough for admitting coins into the coin receptacle box. The cover also comprises a movable door mounted for linear reciprocating movement between a closed position covering the opening and an open position uncovering the opening. An actuator arm is mounted for pivotal movement and includes a finger which is engageable by a pay telephone for pivoting the actuating arm upon installation of the coin receptacle cover in a pay telephone. Additionally, a pin and slot arrangement between the movable door and the actuator arm is provided for converting pivotal movement of the actuator arm into linear reciprocating movement of the movable door. The coin receptacle cover further comprises a linear track and the movable door has a guide pin slidable within the linear track. The opening has a substantially rectangular shape and the entirety of the opening is coverable and uncoverable by the movable door.

Coin receptacle cover for pay telephones

A coin return apparatus, for use with a pay telephone, which provides a discontinuous coin return path between the coin return structure and the coin discharge opening of the pay telephone and which resists 'stuffing', 'stringing', and 'pinning'. The coin return apparatus includes a housing which is mountable within the pay telephone and a movable door mounted to the housing. The housing includes a chamber therein and a first opening which is communicable with a passageway of a coin return structure of the pay telephone and which is selectively communicable with the chamber. The housing further includes a second opening which is communicable with the environment about the pay telephone and which is selectively communicable with the chamber. The movable door is movable between first and second positions relative to the housing. The presence of the movable door in the first position enables removal of coins present in the chamber through the second opening of the housing and disables passage through the first opening from the chamber. The presence of the movable door in the second position enables the delivery of coins into the chamber through the first opening and disables passage through the second opening to the chamber.

Coin return anti-stuffing apparatus and method

A coin chute trigger assembly having separate coin paths for nickels, dimes, and quarters. Intentionally, the dime coin path is made at least twice as wide as the thickness of a dime in order to prevent hangups and jams. A trigger included in each coin path is operated in response to deposit of the appropriate coin through the coin chute or path and causes operation of an included pair of switching contacts.

A coin chute trigger assembly having separate coin paths for nickels, dimes, and quarters. A microswitch is positioned adjacent to each coin path. A trigger included in each coin path is operated in response to deposit of the appropriate coin through the coin chute to cause operation of the included or adjacent microswitch.

A high security shield for use on the upper housing of conventional telephone paystations consisting of a thick stainless steel or similar material U-shaped wrap-around welded to the standard upper housing. The unit replaces the standard die cast face plate and contains the usual face plate features to provide maximum high security. An improved coin escrow mechanism for use in a coin telephone including movable plates located at the corners where the hopper chute joins with the collect and refund channels, respectively. The movable plates facilitate the deposit of additional coinage. Also included is a special notch in the hopper facilitating the easy assembly of the coin escrow mechanism, particularly as to a trigger switch actuator used for actuating the trigger switch on the relay portion of the mechanism.

A plastic vault liner for use in paystations for the purpose of providing a spacer underneath the coin receptable. Two versions are shown: a standard one piece plastic version and a high security version which provides a stainless steel anti-drill plate as an integral part of the liner. The liner is designed as a bevel spring to insure positive upward pressure on various coin enclosures.

A security mechanism for use in a telephone paystation upper housing consisting of a specialized latching mechanism which operates when a non-legal key combination is utilized to gain access to a paystation upper housing to inhibit unlocking of the upper housing and to inhibit the removal of key utilized to gain access to the upper housing. The mechanism is available in kit form and may be added to existing paystations without major modification thereto.

A coin-operated telephone having a housing enclosing a coin acceptor and an associated coin release mechanism which are positioned above a display area. A coin release actuator mechanism is mounted on top of the coin acceptor and includes a rocker arm which is pivoted downwardly by a coin release bar assembly which is secured to and extends across the interior of the housing and is pivoted downwardly by the coin release lever on the front of the housing. The assembly is located above the display area and provides ample clearance in the housing to later add 'smart' features while also providing a large display area.
