A dielectric fluid for a metallized polypropylene film capacitor including about 90% to about 100% by volume glycenyl tri (epoxy acetoxystearate) or glyceryl tri (acetoxystearate), each being an ester with about 90% acetostearic acid.

Dielectric fluid for metallized capacitors

In a capacitor, a dielectric fluid including 0 to about 10 wt. % of an antioxidant, 0 to about 10 wt. % of an epoxide stabilizer, the remainder essentially a compound with more than two stearate groups. The presently preferred compound of the dielectric fluid is glyceryl tri(acetoxystearate). A primary function of the dielectric fluid is to help prevent air from contacting the capacitor body of the capacitor. The capacitor body includes as its dielectric a plastic film such as polypropylene and the above mentioned dielectric fluid. Air pockets in and around the capacitor body are impregnated with such fluid to minimize disruptive electrical or corona discharges without harmfully swelling the plastic film to thereby improve the operating efficiency of such capacitor.

A dielectric fluid for a capacitor includes a mixture of a phthalate ester and an alkylated napthalene.

A capacitor body that is carried in a container is anchored within the container by a cup-shaped member that is disposed at opposite ends of the capacitor body. Each cup-shaped member includes a spike which engages the ends of the capacitor body to hold it in place. In a preferred embodiment, the spike is cylindrical and engages a hollow core having a bore that is hexagonal in cross-section.

A polarized chip capacitor is encapsulated within an insulative material which forms a substantially rectangular member. The exposed portion of the leads exit from oppositely facing, substantially vertical walls of the member. Both leads cover a lower portion of the substantially vertical wall from which they exist and a portion of the bottom of the member. The polarized capacitor rests on and is capable of being electrically connected to a substrate through the wrapped leads. A method for manufacturing a chip capacitor includes the steps of electrically connecting a lead to each the anode and cathode and then encapsulating the capacitor within an insulative material. The exposed portions of the leads are folded towards each other to substantially conform to the exterior shape of the encapsulated capacitor.

An electrical device comprising electrical component means and electrical termination means, the termination means including riser means in electrical contact with the electrical component means, elongated metal containing member joined to the riser means and a metal containing end cap over the elongated metal containing member and conductivity connected thereto by electrically conductive adhesive material. In a preferred embodiment, the electrical device is a chip type, solid electrolyte film forming metal capacitor.

A porous dielectric oxide film-forming metal anode capacitor is provided with an anode riser means that is able to absorb energy by deforming or flexing when subjected to compressive forces such as the forces resulting from a crimping operation in the construction of the capacitor. The anode riser means comprises one or more continuous lengths of metal with at least a portion of one of the lengths in the shape of a bight.

The disclosure relates to an electrical component with low impedance over a range of high frequency input signals. The electrical component comprises a body including a metal anode with a plurality of anode risers contacting the anode, each of the anode risers extend from the anode a relatively short distance with a minimum of spacing therebetween. Anode and cathode levels extend from the body a relatively short distance in spaced substantially parallel relationship with each other. Preferably, the lengths of the anode and the cathode leads are a minimum as well as is the distance between each of the leads in order to further help reduce the impedance of the electrical component over a range of high frequency input signals. An example of an electrical component body is a solid tantalum capacitor comprising an anode of a dielectric oxide film-forming metal with a myriad of intercommunication voids, a dielectric oxide film of the metal contacting surfaces of the anode, and an electrolyte material contacting the dielectric oxide film.

An electrical device is provided with a compressible intermediate layer between an active electrical component and an exterior protective coating. The intermediate layer includes a substantially solid filler material in a resin binder material. The compressive intermediate layer helps to protect a fragile electrical component from stresses resulting from possible shrinkage of the protective coating during curing or hardening, from expansion or contraction of the protective coating during temperature cycling and from the adhesive nature of the protective coating.

The disclosure relates to an electrical component with low impedance over a range of high frequency input signals. The electrical component comprises a dielectric film-forming metal anode with an anode lead projecting from the anode, electrolyte contacting the surfaces of the anode to form a body, and a cathode lead contacting the body and substantially parallel to the plane of the anode lead. Preferably, the length of the anode lead and the cathode lead are a minimum as well as is the distance between the anode lead and the cathode lead in order to help reduce the impedance of the electrical component over a range of high frequency input signals. Surfaces of the body are at an angle with respect to each other. The cathode lead includes an elongated strip of electrically conducting material projecting from the body and a surface of the strip is joined to one or more of the surfaces of the body at an angle with respect to each other. Preferably, the elongated strip of the cathode lead is joined to one of the surface of the body. An example of an electrical component body is a solid tantalum capacitor.
