This relates to a telescoped twin drum arrangement for disposal of hazardous materials. Most specifically there is provided a steel first and outer drum and a fibre second and inner drum. By placing the material which is to be disposed within the fibre drum and then the fibre drum within the steel drum, all government regulations with respect to the shipment of hazardous material are met. On the other hand, at the point of disposal, the fibre drum may be separately disposed of together with the hazardous material retained therein while the still clean steel drum and its cover components may be returned to the place of origin for refilling with anther fibre drum. In order to facilitate the closing of the fibre drum, there is placed in the bottom of the steel drum beneath the fibre drum an elevator or inflated support in the form of a pillow. After the fibre drum is filled and its cover placed thereon together with the associated locking band, the support is deflated so as to permit the fibre drum to be fully seated within the steel drum, after which the steel drum may be closed. If desired, the support may be reinflatable so as to lift the fibre drum partially out of the steel drum at the disposal destination so that the fibre drum may be readily gripped and lifted from the steel drum.

A container and method of adhesive bonding of two telescopic container halves wherein each container half has a cylindrical body, the inner container portion being circumferentially loaded to temporarily reduce its diameter and being forced in centered relation to the outer portion into a bead of adhesive laid in the interior of the outer portion to coat the raw edge on the inner portion, the inner portion shearing through the adhesive without wiping it off from the interior of the inner portion and thereafter the hoop stress on the inner portion being relieved so it springs out and squeezes excess bonding material from between the inner and outer portion and thus obtains thin film adhesive bond with good stress shear characteristics while holding the film in compression therebetween during curing or setting of the adhesive.

A closure for a container wherein a tape having a metal part and thermoplastic material which is applied to the container wall and heated. Most of the material is squeezed out from between the metal part and the wall into a rib which is formed during application. The material in the rib has an isotropic structural characteristic since the rib formation provides a region into which the excess material is directed minimizing the shearing effect of the flow of material along the interface with the container wall. Also the rib reinforces the tape in the critical region to resist pressure of gasses in the container when used to contain carbonated beverages. This patent covers a method of making the above described closure.

Method of making a container closure

A closure for a container wherein a tape having a metal part and thermoplastic material which is applied to the container wall and heated. Most of the material is squeezed out from between the metal part and the wall into a rib which is formed during application. The material in the rib has an isotropic structural characteristic since the rib formation provides a region into which the excess material is directed minimizing the shearing effect of the flow of material along the interface with the container wall. Also the rib reinforces the tape in the critical region to resist pressure of gasses in the container when used to contain carbonated beverages.

Container closure

A tape for sealing a dispensing opening in a container. The tape is permanently bonded at one end to the container adjacent a dispensing opening in the container, has an intermediate portion overlying the dispensing opening and sealed to the container wall around the dispensing opening, and a free end portion functioning as a grip. The tape differs from other similar tapes in that it is a laminate of two materials with one of the materials being a load bearing material and the other material being a rubbery material, whereby when the tape is removed from the dispensing opening in the usual manner, the load bearing material is stretched beyond its elastic limit and thus when the tape is released it will automatically coil up to an out-of-the-way position relative to the dispensing opening.

Self-storing container opening dispensing tape

A composite container comprising a rigid cylindrical sidewall, an end closure integrally attached to the sidewall, a product-compatible liner disposed within said sidewall, and a cutter element, carried between the sidewall and the liner, for rupturing the liner to permit passage of product therethrough. The end closure is formed of a distal end portion of the sidewall folded into a plurality of interconnected triangular segments disposed transverse the principal axis of the container and arranged to be reformable into a pouring spout. A grasping element is attached to both the cutter element and the end closure, such that the end closure may be opened, the pour spout erected and the liner ruptured in a single operation.

Micron size polymer particles with narrow particle size distribution are prepared by dissolving the polymer in a suitable liquid solvent, impinging an atomized spray of the dissolved polymer on a moving film of a liquid in which the polymer is insoluble and then recovering the polymer particles from the resultant mixture of liquids.
