A device for sealing incisions in the body of a patient wherein the device includes a bioabsorbable sealing member having an elongate shaft member and an elastomeric and flexible balloon member. The device may also include a preformed or injectable collagenous material associated therewith to hemostatically seal the incision in the body of the patient. The shaft member may include one or more lumens extending therethrough in flow communication with one or more balloon members thereon to provide a relatively simple device which effectively seals an incision in the body of a patient.

Device for sealing hemostatic incisions

A suction control valve is disclosed that vents to atmosphere the residual vacuum pressure presented to a suction catheter or similar device when the central bore of the valve is completely blocked by a valve member and the device that the suction control valve is controlling becomes occluded. A vent bore extends from the central bore through the valve body underneath the valve member. A vent channel is formed in the underside of the valve member longitudinally aligned with the vent bore and extending a small distance along the underside of the valve body from the end of the valve body. The length of the vent channel is such that when the valve member completely blocks the central bore, the vent channel is positioned over the vent bore thereby forming a vent path from the central bore through the vent bore and vent channel to the atmosphere. Unless the valve body is in the fully closed position, the vent bore is not aligned with the vent channel. As a result, no vent path is formed between the central bore and the atmosphere.

A ventilation cap for a flashback chamber is formed of a hollow elongate cylindrical body of polymeric material and includes a proximal opening which is blocked by a venting material such as a hydrophobic filter, and a distal opening which is sized to allow an extension of the flashback chamber to be inserted therein for airtight connection therewith. The elongate body of the ventilation cap has a tear strip formed therein by a pair of generally parallel score lines. The cap is affixed to the flashback chamber so as to allow air to pass from the flashback chamber through the vent as blood fills the flashback chamber, while preventing blood from passing through the vent. When it is desired to attach other apparatus to the extension of the flashback chamber, the tear strip, which may have a pull tab integrally formed therewith, is torn away from the elongate body to destroy the airtight seal between the flashback extension and the cap. Once the tear strip has been pulled away from the body of the cap, the cap can be easily removed from the extension without the creation of vacuum forces which would tend to cause spillage of blood from the flashback chamber.

An over the needle catheter introducer having an introducer needle and a cannula member with finger engaging means on the introducer needle and cannula member and a groove means on the introducer means to selectively engage a luer extension on the proximal end of the cannula member so that the introducer needle engages the cannula member in one position and is readily released therefrom by rotation of the cannula member about the introducer needle.
