A flow control system includes a drip chamber having lower and upper wall sections and a collapsible wall extending between the lower and upper wall sections, a downwardly depending valve seat attached to the lower wall section, and a valve member disposed in the drip chamber, attached to the upper wall section and having a valve surface engageable with the valve seat. The system also includes a driver rotatably engaged to the lower and upper wall sections. Upon rotation of the driver in a first direction, the collapsible wall of the drip chamber moves between a collapsed condition in which the valve seat is sealingly engaged with the valve surface and an extended condition in which the valve seat is sufficiently spaced from the valve surface to form a flow passageway between the valve surface and the valve seat and permit flow through the opening of the drip chamber.

A port assembly includes a valve housing with an inlet opening, a valve disposed in the valve housing to control access through the inlet opening, and a base joined to the valve housing and having a bore therethrough. The bore has a closed end defined by a frangible barrier, and a pushrod is disposed in the bore between the valve and the frangible barrier, axial movement of the pushrod causing rupture of the frangible barrier. The port assembly may be used in a fluid container that includes a receptacle for retaining a fluid, and at least one conduit in communication with the receptacle. The at least one conduit is defined, at least in part, by a port assembly.

Port assembly for use with needleless connector

A port assembly includes a housing with an opening and a bore therethrough, a slit septum disposed in the bore to control access through the opening, a base joined to the housing and having a membrane attached thereto, a perforator having a first end abutting the slit septum and a second end aligned with the membrane, and a resilient member disposed between the perforator and the base. The port assembly may be used in a fluid container that includes a receptacle for retaining a fluid, and at least one conduit in communication with the receptacle. The at least one conduit may be defined, at least in part, by the port assembly.

A port assembly includes a valve housing with an inlet opening, a valve disposed in the valve housing to control access through the inlet opening, and a base having an outlet opening that is initially occluded by a membrane. A pivot is disposed within the base and has a cutting surface disposed within the base, the cutting surface rupturing the membrane at least in part as the pivot is pivoted about an axis between first and second positions. The port assembly may be used in a fluid container that includes a receptacle for retaining a fluid, and at least one conduit in communication with the receptacle. The at least one conduit is defined, at least in part, by the port assembly.

A sampling apparatus is disclosed that includes a sample container including at least one wall defining a fluid-receiving interior chamber and including a fluid inlet for receiving fluid into the chamber and a sample device receiver carried by the container wall and in fluid communication with the chamber, the receiver being adapted to receive a sampling device for withdrawing a fluid sample from the chamber.

Biological fluid sampling apparatus, assembly and method

A medicant reconstitution system is provided which has a generally flexible fluid bag with associated administration and reconstitution ports. The reconstitution port is adapted for receiving a medicant container and the administration port is for administering a medical fluid to a patient. According to one aspect of the present invention, the administration and reconstitution ports are integrated in a relatively rigid port structure. According to another aspect of the present invention, the reconstitution port receives a piercing member which is rotatable to a selected position to establish fluid flow. According to yet another aspect of the present invention, one of the reconstitution port and the piercing member includes a cutting edge, while the other includes a frangible member. Contact between the cutting edge and the frangible member opens the frangible member to establish fluid flow.

A blood separation chamber comprises a base that includes formed walls that define a hub. A separation channel extends about the hub. A flow passage extends between the hub and the separation channel. The hub enables attachment of external tubing to convey blood to and from the separation channel through the hub.
