A head for an oral-care implement having a longitudinal axis and comprises a bristle carrier having at least one tuft hole and at least one tuft being fixed in said tuft hole by an anchor. The at least one tuft comprises at least one filament having a longitudinal axis and a non-circular cross-sectional area extending in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The at least one filament is bent around the anchor so that a first limb and a second limb extend from the bristle carrier. The first limb comprises a first free end, and the second limb comprises a second free end. Each free end is twisted around the longitudinal axis by a twisting angle &#x3b1; of about 80&#xb0; to about 100&#xb0;, preferably about 90&#xb0;.

A brush head for an electric toothbrush is disclosed. The brush head includes a bristle support having mounting means for the movable mounting of the bristle support and a plurality of bristle tufts arranged on the bristle support in at least one outer ring and one middle ring, the middle ring being nested within the outer ring and having a central area. The outer ring includes outer bristle tufts having an elongated tuft cross-section, which outer bristle tufts are mounted on opposing sides of the outer ring. The middle ring includes at least two middle bristle tufts that each have a cross-section that is smaller than the cross-section of the outer bristle tufts and a central area including at least one bristled section that consists of two center bristle tufts having a cross-section larger than the cross-section of the middle bristle tufts. The center bristle tufts each having an elongated, substantially kidney-shaped form that complement each other so that the bristled section of the central area has an approximately circular, oval or elliptical structure.

The invention is directed to a bristle for a toothbrush, said bristle being comprised of a plastic monofilament, with the preferably cloverleaf-shaped bristle body having several longitudinal ribs arranged in star shape and projecting laterally from a core section of the bristle body. The invention is also directed to a brush head for an electric toothbrush having at least one bristle tuft with at least one such bristle as well as to an electric toothbrush having such a brush head. According to the invention, the bristle of the type initially referred to is configured to be self-fanning in such a manner that the cleaning forces acting on the bristles during normal brushing cause the bristle to split open at its free end. As a result, the need to use complex splitting methods and corresponding splitting machines in the manufacture of the toothbrush can be obviated.

The present invention relates to a method for producing a brush head for a toothbrush head in which the bristle tufts that are already fixed to a bristle support of the brush head are cut at the free ends thereof such that a desired tuft end contour is generated. According to the invention, at least one bristle tuft is bent away at least in parts and held in a bent-away position while the tuft end contour of this at least one and/or of another bristle tuft is cut.

The present invention relates to a tooth cleaning bristle, which is configured as a monofilament and has a outer surface having a contour that is structured preferably in the shape of a longitudinal flute and that has projections and depressions, alternating in the peripheral direction. A bristle cluster for a toothbrush is provided. The bristle cluster includes a number of bristles of a first type and a number of bristles of a second type. The bristles of the first type have wear characteristics that differ from the wear characteristics of the second type. A head for an electric toothbrush includes a support member having a plurality of holes extending completely therethrough. A plurality of tufts of bristles each extends through one of the holes. A first brushing end of each tuft projects from a first side of the support member. Each tuft is prevented from being withdrawn from its hole when a tensile force is applied to the first end of each tuft along a long axis of the tuft. A resilient cushion is positioned adjacent a second side of the support member such that a second end of each tuft can contact the cushion. When a compressive force is applied to the first end of each tuft along the long axis of each tuft, each tuft can move in its hole in a first direction into the cushion. When the compressive force is removed the cushion causes each tuft to move in its hole in a second direction substantially opposite the first direction.

A bristle cluster stuffing tool ram is used for pressing a strip-shaped holding element, preferably an anchor, into a borehole that is arranged in a brush head and serves for accommodating a bristle cluster. The end face of the ram comprises a pressing surface for pressing in the holding element. The pressing surface is defined by longitudinal sides and face sides. The rain has end face regions that penetrate into the material of the brush head when the holding element is pressed in. The cross section of the ram that lies outside the end face regions and penetrates into the borehole is wider than the end face regions.
