A first layer provides or comprises a piezoelectric phase or a material with or adapted for electromechanical coupling; and a second layer provides or comprises a magnetostrictive phase or a material with or adapted for a magnetomechanical coupling. Low-power high-frequency directional tunable AC magnetic field

A testing apparatus for dynamic characterization of a sample of a material under test. A terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy system is configured and arranged to generate and detect terahertz waves to interrogate the sample. A shock wave loading system is configured and arranged to produce a shock wave in the sample concurrently with said THz spectroscopy device interrogating the sample. The sample undergoes changes in an index of refraction in response to the produced ultrafast shock wave in the sample that are detected by the terahertz spectroscopy system.

Apparatus and method for dynamic characterization of materials

The scope of this invention is to disclose the method of foaming a superior impact mitigation material, namely semi-closed cell hybrid polyurea foam, using scalable manufacturing process that is geometry-independent and allows for greater control of the resulting foam properties. while the process discussed herein, can be easily used to make complex geometries (e.g., padding foam for helmets, outsoles for walking and running shoes, body armors or other protection applications.
