The present invention describes a bioinformatic method that can be used in the estimation of an individual's susceptibility to cancer through an evaluation of that individual's personal genome sequence. More specifically, this invention is a continuation-in-part of the methodology described in patent application Ser. No. 14/154,303 for the early detection of cancer. Said method is based upon an analysis of the structure of the repetitive DNA sequences surrounding and within the various cancer-linked regions of the individual's genome being evaluated. Said analysis of said individual's genome is then compared to the same analysis conducted for one or more reference genomes and/or genes for which cancer susceptibility has been previously determined. Said analysis can also be used to estimate the respective likelihoods that each cancer-linked genomic region will be damaged in the potential formation of a tumor. This patient-specific analysis can then be used in the economical design of locus-specific monitoring for early genetic damage as part of pre-cancer genetic screening.

The present invention relates generally to the field of human genetics. More specifically, this invention relates to the clinical application of a bioinformatics methodology described in patent application Ser. No. 14/154,303 for the early detection of cancer. Said clinical application relates to obtaining the genome sequence from an individual's healthy tissue and comparing it to the DNA sequence obtained from that same individual's body tissues, wastes and/or fluids. Said method inspects the DNA sequence obtained from body tissues, wastes and/or fluids for the presence of DNA damage at bioinformatically predicted genetically unstable loci within cancer-linked regions of the patients healthy DNA. The identification of DNA damage within a predicted locus is considered to be evidence of cancer. Said method then uses the unique signature of any damaged DNA sequence which has occurred at predicted unstable cancer-linked loci to construct patient-specific cancer biomarker(s). These biomarkers can be used for monitoring the progression of cancer and for treatment of the cancer in a patient.

Methods of controlling bacterial, yeast, and/or mold contamination of edible fruits or vegetables comprise applying thereto an aqueous microbiocidal composition formed from water and (A) at least one component selected from (I) a solid-state microbiocidal compound having at least one bromine atom per molecule; (II) an aqueous solution/slurry of a compound of (I); (III) a concentrated aqueous composition having an active bromine content of at least 50,000 ppm derived from water and (i) BrCl or BrCl and Brand (ii) overbased alkali metal sulfamate, where the relative proportions of (i) and (ii) give an atom ratio of nitrogen to active bromine greater than 0.93, and where the pH of the composition is greater than 7; and (IV) a solid-state composition formed by dewatering a composition of (III).

Ultraviolet light stabilized antimicrobial compositions are formed from (A) and (B). (A) is (I) a solid-state microbiocidal compound having at least one bromine atom in the molecule; (II) an aqueous solution or slurry of (I); (III) is a concentrated aqueous antimicrobial composition having a dissolved active bromine content derived from (i) BrCl or BrCl and Br2 and (ii) overbased alkali metal sulfamate and/or sulfamic acid, alkali metal base, and water, (IV) solids made by dewatering a composition of (III). (B) is a ultraviolet light degradation-inhibiting amount of up to one part by weight of ascorbic acid, dehydroascorbic acid and/or an edible water-soluble salt/ester thereof per part by weight of bromine in the selected antimicrobial composition. Preparation and uses of such compositions are described. Methods of controlling contamination of seafood and seafood products by pathogens are also described.

Bromine-based biocides suitable for food processing

Processes are provided for conjointly producing Br2 and a concentrated aqueous solution containing at least about 5 wt % CaCI2, based on the weight of the concentrated aqueous solution, from an aqueous HBr rich stream and, optionally, a feed brine dilute in CaCI2. Such processes can comprise feeding the aqueous HBr-rich stream and the feed brine to a tower, oxidizing bromide moieties within the tower with Cl2 to produce Br2, recovering Br2 from the tower, removing a bromide-depleted bottoms from the tower, such bottoms containing HCI, adding a Ca++ source to the bromide-depleted bottoms to convert substantially all of the HCI in the bottoms to CaCI2, and, as necessary, removing water from the treated bottoms to produce the concentrated aqueous solution.

Processes for conjointly producing bromine and calcium chloride

Processes are provided for conjointly producing Brand a concentrated aqueous solution containing at least about 5 wt % CaCI, based on the weight of the concentrated aqueous solution, from an HBr-rich recycle stream and a feed brine dilute in CaCI. wherein the aqueous HBr-rich stream is produced from an HBr-rich recycle stream and a portion of the feed brine. Such processes can comprise feeding the HBr-rich recycle stream and a liquid comprising a portion of the feed brine, either together or separately to an HBr absorption tower; producing an aqueous HBr-rich stream in the HBr absorption tower; feeding the aqueous HBr-rich stream and, optionally, a portion of the feed brine to a bromine tower, oxidizing bromide moieties within the bromine tower with CIto produce Br; recovering Brfrom the bromine tower, removing a bromide-depleted bottoms from the bromine tower, such bottoms containing HCI; adding a Ca++ source to the bromide-depleted bottoms to convert substantially all of the HCI in the bottoms to CaCI, and, as necessary, removing water from the treated bottoms to produce the concentrated aqueous solution.

Such processes can comprise feeding the aqueous HBr-rich stream and the feed brine to a tower, oxidizing bromide moieties within the tower with Clfrom a Clsource, at least a portion of which is produced according to this invention, to produce Br, recovering Brfrom the tower, removing a bromide-depleted bottoms from the tower, such bottoms containing HCI, adding a Casource to the bromide-depleted bottoms to convert substantially all of the HCI in the bottoms to CaCI, as necessary, removing water from the treated bottoms to produce the concentrated aqueous solution, producing Cland caustics from residual chlorides such as NaCI, and using at least a portion of the thus produced Clin the Clsource.

Synthetic zeolite is produced by force feeding separate aqueous streams of sodium silicate and of an alkali metal aluminate into coaxial alignment with each other. The coaxially aligned solutions are then introduced into in an open space in coaxial fashion with one of the streams being injected from a nozzle. The open space constitutes a mixing zone in which the two streams come together and are thoroughly mixed to produce a precrystallized mixture. This mixture then passes in unimpeded fashion through an entrance port and into a crystallization reactor or vessel. The system used for conducting this operation thus serves the dual function of being a feeding system and a mixing system whereby the silicate and aluminate streams interact with each other before entering the crystallization reactor or zone. Intimate mixing is assured by virtue of the relatively small volume of the mixing zone and the higher velocity of the stream emanating from the nozzle.
