The invention encompasses the pattern coating of a thick layer of adhesive on a single substrate. The adhesive strips may be continuous or discontinuous on the single substrate. In one preferred embodiment of the invention, the substrate is a release liner and the adhesive is a hot melt, thereby not requiring the use of an extruder in the application of the adhesive onto the substrate. When it is desired to produce a non-foamed product, the web is chilled on a chilled drum. Elimination of this chilling step, results in the formation of a foamed tape product, due to the evaporation of the moisture which is typically contained within the silicone-coated paper web. The product is a thick (10-100 mils), free (no carrier) film of adhesive made to the desired width (3/8' to approximately 6') of a high cohesive strength adhesive, with good temperature resistance (&gt;196.degree. F.), with low bubble content (appears clear), wound into rolls containing from 100-800 feet or greater in length.

A ground cable system for the electrical circuit of a vehicle including a battery having first and second terminals, an ignition switch electrically coupled to the first terminal and having a start contact and having a start position in which the start contact is electrically coupled to the first terminal, a ground, and a starting motor electrically coupled to the start contact of the ignition switch and to the ground. The system includes a ground cable including a first section electrically coupled to the second terminal, including a second section electrically coupled to the ground, and having a gap between the first and second sections; a solenoid electrically coupled to the start contact of the ignition switch and to the ground for movement from a first position to a second position when the ignition switch is moved to the start position, for remaining in the second position as long as the ignition switch is in the start position, and for movement back to the first position when the ignition switch is moved from the start position; and an electrical connector coupled to the solenoid for electrically closing the gap between the first and second sections of the ground cable means when the solenoid is in the second position.

Safety ground system

A tool adapted to align and interact with a radiator cap to assist in the removal of the cap from a radiator has a pliers type arrangement of levers with uniquely constructed end effectors. One of the end effectors includes a substantially planar alignment plate with a depending skirt extending less than 180.degree. about a peripheral sector of the alignment plate. The alignment plate orients the tool with the top of the radiator cap, and the skirt angularly orients the tool to positively abut a lug on the radiator cap with the skirt sidewall. The other end effector is a relatively narrow gripping jaw which cooperatively interacts with the alignment plate and skirt to compressively engage an interposed radiator cap as the handle on the levers are manually moved toward each other. The levers mechanically multiply both compressive force manually applied to the levers to firmly grasp the cap, and the torque applied to unscrew the cap from the radiator.

Radiator cap remover

A tool with a pair of longitudinally translatable components, includes a base with a lip to engage the underside of a boot covering a spark plug of an internal combustion engine. The other component, a slideable tongue, engages the engine head to provide a controlled reaction force against the underside of the boot to force it off the spark plug. The base of the tool may be fitted against the boot for aligning the tool to direct the reaction force in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spark plug. The tool is activated after alignment by manually compressing a handle connected to the tongue to move toward a finger grip rigidly secured to the base. The tongue preferably is connected to the handle by an actuating rod guided by a sleeve mounted on the base.
