An arrangement for detecting cycles of operation of a positive displacement diaphragm gas meter sets up a magnetic field which is directed through the non-magnetic housing of the meter toward an internal cyclically moving ferromagnetic element of the meter. The strength of the magnetic field is varied as the ferromagnetic element moves toward and away from the source of the magnetic field. The strength of the magnetic field is detected and an output signal representative thereof is processed to define cycles of operation of the meter.

Cyclic motion detection arrangement

A meter in a high pressure gas pipeline is calibrating using a sonic nozzle in series with the meter. A bypass line is run where measurements are made to determine gas composition dependent factors for use in defining the flow through the nozzle.

Method for determining the accuracy of a gas measurement instrument

An arrangement for determining the supercompressibility factor of a flowing gas at elevated pressure includes a first meter for measuring the volume flow rate of the gas at the elevated pressure, a restrictor at the outlet of the first meter for dropping the pressure of the gas to a pressure at which the supercompressibility factor is known, and a second meter for measuring the volume flow rate of the gas at the lower pressure. A computer calculates the supercompressibility factor of the gas at the elevated pressure by utilizing measured values of temperature, pressure and volume flow rate of the gas at both the elevated and lower pressures.

Variable ratio transmission mechanism and associated gearing correct volumetric flow indications of a gas meter as a function of temperature and/or pressure variations in gas flowing through the meter, or by a manually selectable fixed factor adjustment.

An internal gate rotary vane fluid meter is provided with a direct gearless drive between the rotor and the gate mounted on parallel displaced shafts inside a housing. A plurality of timing discs mounted on the rotor are utilized for drivingly coupling and synchronizing the gate to the rotor.

In a rotary meter having a self contained cartridge including a stationary core member, a rotor and a rotating cylindrical gate, a removable spider member is utilized to accurately position the cartridge within the meter casing prior to final assembly. A replenishable lubricant reservoir in the stationary core member provides lubrication for the various bearings within the meter.

Rotary meter

A rotary meter of the vane type having a rotary gate separating the inlet from the outlet. The rotor vanes and the gate are rotated in a predetermined timed sequence by a suitable transmission such as timing gears which interconnect the rotor and the gate. The rotor is journaled in the housing by axially spaced bearings, at least one of which is mounted in the improved spider bearing support disposed on the outboard side of the rotor. The spider bearing is connected to the housing by detachable holding tabs and positioned concentric to the rotor axis. The housing is enclosed by an end bonnet with the spider bearing support connected to the housing axially below the bonnet and intermediate the bonnet and the rotor. The spider bearing support improves the accuracy of centering the rotor within the housing, decreasing the cost, and improving the access while simplifying the assembly.
