A nail gel/acrylic removal system and method for manufacturing a roll of foil segments with pads around a core used for nail gel and acrylic nail removal. A pad is configured to receive and absorb a substance for dissolving at least one of nail gel and acrylic nails. A segment of foil with an affixed pad is sized to wrap around at least a portion of a finger of a human hand so that the pad with the substance for dissolving is in contact with a fingernail of the hand. First and second sets of perforations are placed along opposite edges of the foil segment, so that pairs of foil segments with the pads are joined at the first and second set of perforations. A roll is formed of the foil segments with pads around a core.

An apparatus to provide ultra-violet (UV) irradiation to cure a gel nail. The apparatus includes a top section and a bottom section, the top and bottom sections forming a unit with an opening sized to allow at least a portion of a human hand to be inserted. An array of light emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed in the unit to emit UV irradiation in a first direction when supplied with electrical power. At least one LED is disposed in the unit to emit UV irradiation in a second direction when supplied with electrical power. The first direction is approximately perpendicular to the second direction such that fingernails and a thumbnail of a human hand inserted into the opening substantially simultaneously receive amounts of UV irradiation sufficient to cure a UV curable gel applied to the fingernails and the thumbnail at approximately the same time.

A method for making clear and resilient artificial fingernail tips which can be applied to the forward edge of the natural fingernail using a mixture of copolymer pellets which form a plastic phase and terpolymer pellets which form a rubber phase; drying the pellets, melting the pellets, injecting the molten material into a mold to form the desired artificial fingernail tips.

A method and kit for providing a tack-free artificial nail surface. The tack-free artificial nail surface may include an acrylic layer and a barrier layer. The acrylic layer may comprise an odorless monomer. The barrier layer may be of any material impervious to oxygen. The tack-free nail surface may be formed by application of the acrylic layer to a fingernail nail bed. The barrier layer may then be applied over the acrylic layer. The barrier layer blocks oxygen from the acrylic layer so that the acrylic layer may polymerize in the absence of oxygen.

A method for identifying methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the liquid part of a liquid/powder system used to form artificial finger nails and toenails. The chemistry used to identify MMA in liquid monomers provides an accurate and inexpensive way to monitor the use of MMA in liquid monomers in violation of a ban of MMA by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for purposes of creating artificial finger nails and toenails.

The invention relates to a method of applying a nailwrap to a human nail. The method includes depositing an effective amount of a polymerization catalyst on the nailwrap, placing the nailwrap on a portion of the nail, and depositing a first layer of a monomer over the nailwrap to simulate a human nail. By depositing the polymerization catalyst on the nailwrap, polymerization of the monomer occurs from the bulk, i.e., the surface of the human nail, and proceeds to the surface of the artificial nail structure. The invention also relates to a nailwrap for use on a human nail with a monomer to support an artificial nail structure. The nailwrap includes a woven fiber and an effective amount of a polymerization catalyst embedded in the fiber to substantially polymerize the monomer.
