A serpentine tube used in the manufacture of a fluorescent lamp is coated with a reflective or phosphor material. A magnetic material and coating material slurry is placed within one end of a serpentine glass tube. A magnet is placed adjacent the magnetic material and coating material slurry and is moved in a path conforming to the shape of the serpentine tube. The magnet causes the magnetic material and coating material slurry to travel along therewith, coating a portion of the interior surface of the serpentine tube with a reflective, phosphor, or other material. In another embodiment of the invention, abrasive magnetic material is placed within the serpentine lamp for removing a previously coated material resulting in an aperture being formed. The present invention is particularly suited to the manufacture of serpentine fluorescent lamps that are used to illuminate flat panel displays.

A lamp base and mating socket locking to prevent axial separation. A lamp base has a locking bridge with arms extending between pairs of contact pins spaced a distance from a surface of the lamp base forming a gap. The contact pins and locking bridge extend through an opening in the socket. Upon rotating the lamp base relative to the socket, locking lands extend under the arms of the locking bridge in the gap preventing unintentional axial separation between the lamp base and the socket. In one embodiment, a key notch is formed in one of the arms of the locking bridge and a mating key pin is formed on the lamp base. The present invention is particularly suited to environments susceptible to vibration or movement; for example, in the treatment of wastewater.

A connector includes a tubular wall on a first body containing a lamp envelope, coaxially receiving an insulating tube mounted on a second body having a cavity that receives the first body, spring metal strip terminals on the outside of the tubular wall in resilient contact with spring metal strip terminals on the inside of the cavity, and microprocessor controlled heated and cooled air delivered to the lamp envelope by way of the insulating tube in response to a sensor that monitors at least one of lamp amalgam temperature and lamp radiation.

Label or package construction incorporating a hidden, but purchaser-accessible, game piece. The label, on the part of the package incorporating the gamepiece, is comprised of multiple plastic layers, or plys, and has gamepiece indicia printed on opposite surfaces of a single layer or on contacting surfaces of adjacent layers. After the product incorporating the label or packaging is purchased, the customer removes the gamepiece portion and folds the portion in a manner such that the indicia containing area on the first layer surface is aligned with the indicia containing area on the second layer surface. When aligned, an indication is provided as to whether the customer is a prize winner.

Angle indicia is also provided at the pivot for determining the angle of bend.
