The fusible inorganic blended-fiber web can provide a fire-stopped through-penetration without the use of sealants, intumescent materials, and the like. The fusible inorganic blended-fiber web may comprise a blend of at least first, low melting inorganic fibers and second, high melting inorganic fibers. The fusible inorganic blended-fiber web comprises a bulk density of at least about 7 pounds per cubic foot (0.112 grams/cc).

Method of firestopping a through-penetration using a fusible inorganic blended-fiber web

Methods are disclosed in which two or more forming chambers are used to process inorganic fibers by gravity-laying methods. The methods may comprise using a first forming chamber to open inorganic fibers and using a second forming chamber to process the opened inorganic fibers, optionally to blend the opened inorganic fibers with additional inorganic fibers and/or with particulate additives, and to collect the inorganic fibers as a mat. The methods may comprise using a first forming chamber to form a first inorganic fiber layer and a second forming chamber to form a second inorganic fiber layer, and consolidating the first and second inorganic fiber layers so as to provide a multilayer gravity-laid inorganic fiber web.

Methods are disclosed by which melt-formed inorganic fibers may be processed to form a gravity-laid inorganic fiber web. The gravity-laying process comprises mechanically separating the melt-formed inorganic fibers and collecting the fibers, and may comprise blending the melt-formed inorganic fibers with other inorganic fibers and/or with inorganic particulate additives.

The composition is substantially free of volatile organic compounds and, when dry, exhibits a tensile strength of from about 300 psi to about 1500 psi, at least about 600% elongation, a modulus of from about 200 psi to about 600 psi, and a tensile toughness of greater than 10 in-lb.
